2010 is a very solid transfer that looks like film. It's far better in this regard compared to the 2001 transfer.

Woohoo, check out my 2001 cutlery that Dave uses to eat with:

The big spoon is excellent and my favorite spoon, it goes really well with a Ben & Jerry's... or Nutella.
The fork is a little harder to use and the knife is okay, but they all definitely have a very nice and unique design, which is why Kubrick chose them.

I also found a card signed by Arthur C. Clarke to me, the date is Jan. 4, 2000. In the early years of the Internet, I knew a girl from Sri Lanka who I was friends with for several years and shared life stories with, etc. One day, I must've mentioned Arthur C. Clark living in Sri Lanka because I knew he lived there and she told me she knew him and got him to sign that card for me. I'm really happy to have it.

The reason why 2001 looks virtually grain free is because it was shot in Super Panavision 70, a large format film stock. The reason why 2010 looks grainy is because it was shot on grainy 35mm film stock.

Yet 2010 on Blu actually has better detail. lol

Wasn't Lawrence of Arabia shot on the same or very similar film? Grain is noticeable on Lawrence and the transfer destroys 2001. Same goes for Patton which I just watched although I cannot say it's the same film, but grain should always been noticeable on an analog film.

I'm not sure why so many people think 2001 looks so great. It's DNR'd, EE'd with a low bit encode from an older transfer. When it gets remastered, I think a lot of people will be in for a big surprise. It has the potential to look WAY better.

I really don't think 2010 does have better detail and I've watched both on a projector. 2001 could do with a new transfer, but you are exaggerrating.

I'm not exagerrating, you're just not judging the disc properly. You'll find out down the road though and you still have not addressed my point as to why Lawrence blows away 2001 in terms of quality.

2010 has not only more detail, but a more analog look.

And I have watched both movies on a reference quality pro-calibrated JVC front projector and Stewart ST100 screen at 124" from 9.5 feet back.

The effects sequences in 2010 were shot in 65mm I believe. Or 70mm.
