They often refer to the zooming into a 2.35 setup the 'poor mans' 2.35 as the ultimate solution would be to add an anamorphic lens on a lens automatic lens slide. Pair that with some automatic masking and you've got the dream setup. You are also likely out of pocket thousands upon thousands of dollars to accomplish this, so stick with the lens memory * Sub: SVS PC12-NSD * L/C/R: Axiom M22's * Surrounds: B&W DS6 * Pre/Pro: Integra DHC-80.2 * AMP: Emotiva XPA5 *

I also want to be able to teach my gf how to use everything. So that’s another + for the lens memory. The anamorphic lens seems pretty cool (and spendy). I guess I will see how bad I get into all this lol (something tells me it’s my new drug).

I would say the only issue (not really a problem) I've run into is on movies that switch between 2.35 and 1.78 (IMAX footage) like Tron Legacy and The Dark Knight. If viewing the movie zoomed to 2.35, parts of the 1.78 footage will spill over onto the wall and ceiling. My understanding is that the only way around this (without using Lens Memory to move back and forth) is an anamorphic lens. These are the only two movies I own that are like that so not really a problem for me. Anyways, this projector is awesome.

Congrats on the JVC! With the lens memory and it being the king of black levels, you should like it. I also think you went with one of the best acoustically transparent screens that you can buy. Centerstage XD is probably the highest actual gain of all of the fabric/weave style A/T screens. Not to mention I like giving those Iowa guys the business. They seem like a good outfit. Let us know your impressions when its all put together.

i've had an anamorphic lens setup before and have to say it's overrated, the lens memory option has more positives than negatives in this regard. anamorphic lens made more sense in the dvd era where discs were "enhanced for widescreen tvs" and videos were encoded 16:9 stretched onto a 4:3 frame, so with an anamorphic lens you would retain a 1:1 pixel fidelity. nowadays virtually nothing is encoded anamorphically/stretched so you have to reprocess the video before using the lens, so you lose some of the sharpness of the fundamentally accurate video track, BUT gain lumen strength since the image is now displayed on more of the projector's lcd/dlp/whatever chip.......but projectors these days are bright enough to where that extra brightness is usually unnecessary. if you have a wide room where the 16:9 portion of a 2.35 screen would the same size as a regular 16:9 screen, then go for the 2.35 and lens memory projector. but if a 16:9 screen would maximize the image size for your room dimensions, then go with that and keep it simple. 16:9 should be the priority if you're watching more than just 2.35:1 movies.
