Alien 1/2/3 = perfection
Alien Resurrection = decent
Prometheus = one of my favourite films of the decade so far

I have my issues with it, but otherwise, I really, really like Prometheus. Just not quite as much as the first three Alien films.
Favourite film: Blade Runner --- Favourite director: David Lynch
Favourite album: Movement by New Order --- Favourite novel: It by Stephen King
Currently reading: Ban This Filth: Letters from the Mary Whitehouse Archive by Ben Thompson.

No he didn't. He completely ignored the effects issue and jumped to script and plot.

What do you want him to do ? Write an essay on the crappy optical effects of Alien 3 ? He acknowledged that the effects were one of several problems with the film. Everybody would agree that a poor screenplay is a far bigger problem for a film than the effects, which btw are pretty terrible for a film of its time and budget. But the screenplay, which everybody who knows a little bit about the production of the film, was hastily written and rewritten while the film was being shot.

Why are jumping into two other people's debate and then misrepresenting it? I don't get the point.

He listed his big flaws with the film and I countered each one. He responded on the effects specifically and said Alien didn't have any bad effects. I countered that, with photos, and in his reply he completely changed the subject. Hence my comment that I guess the effects debate is over because he's ignoring my last point on that specific topic.

If you want to read my comments on the plot and characters then go back a few posts and read that. I already addressed it.

I know a lot of people say they hate the cast of Alien 3, but along with Ripley I liked Clemens, Dillon and what little we saw of the broken down Bishop.

You are not having a private conversation, you are on a public forum where everybody is free to join a discussion which has between a group of people anyway. It seems strange to even have to point this out to you.

You are comparing films which are 13 years apart in terms of effects technology and Alien 3 still looks worse even in the stills you posted. Ridley Scott was wise enough to only show the creature as a whole by the very end and apart from that one shot, the alien looks pretty cool even today. It had been a man in a suit all along, but what a suit ! Alien 3 mixed a man in a suit, which looked not as good as the one in Alien, with a rod puppet, which was poorly composited into shots and the two look nothing alike. At least Alien was consistent and stayed away from optical effects for the alien, which always produces ugly matte lines as visible in the very still you posted. In Alien the creature looks like it inhabits the same space as the actors at all times, unlike the rod puppet in Alien 3.

The 'man in suit' effects of Alien have never bothered me. At the finale or elsewhere (that picture didn't make me change my mind). Happy with me "addressing your point" or are you still sulking?
