Huh...it's an 'unofficial sequel'?? I can't believe I never noticed the similarities between the films, I had no idea. It makes sense.

THE CHURCH was directed by Michele Soavi, not Lamberto Bava (who directed DEMONS/DEMONS 2). They were all produced by Dario Argento, though.

It was written to be a sequel, but the finished film had a different enough vibe that they released it as a stand-alone title. They called it DEMONS 3: THE CHURCH in Japan, though. (And since Soavi also directed Dellamorte Dellamore, they released that as DEMONS '95!)
