They may introduce some modification to mitigate or eliminate a common fault, even for problems that may have not been discovered by most users.

For minor that any changes may be, with a problematic device I am not sure I would dismiss so quickly the build date.

Build or lot would be attributed to a part issue. Thats not what is happening here. As a analogy you take a server grade 10K HDD and stick in a cheap plastic mid tower PC and it will buzz excessively. Ultra BD drives spin at higher RPM at the start of each layer. The service bulletin mentions not having the proper reinforcement for the higher RPM optical loader they utilized, thats why a build data is irrelevant.

I am not sure when that service bulletin you are referring to was issued but my point is that at any time LG may decide to reinforce, improve the current mechanics, like using thicker metal parts on the drive or change the drive completely.

If you have constant access to LG's service bulletins you will know whether this has happened or not but if you don't -like most people- looking for the latest manufacturing date is not such a bad idea as generally some new products have problems the manufacturer only discover after they in real world use and responsible companies will try to address those faults.

Reading many UP970 Forums. Peoples openning the Case to add noise reduction paddings saids its not an LG Brand Drive. Its from that other High Quality AV company making 4K HDR Disc Players.

So just estimating Best Buy 2000 stores sold average 100 up970 each... Thats 200,000 UP970. With about 30 BB up970 verified purchasers say their unit is noisy. So thats USA Wide.

Just how many more noisy drives will that other Vendor sell to LG without correction? My Gosh. That Vendor is a quality company.

Just Buy The UP970 Protection Replacement plan from BB. Its only about $30 to cover 4 years.

If you entertain getting DV OPPO 203 from Best Buy Magnolia AV for 4 years plan it cost Appx $110.

For Immediate DV now today-
$549+ Tax+ Shipping + $110 protection plan.

Thus there is good options out there if LG is just not your Cup of Tea.

LG makes their own UHD BD drives as they made BD drives before that. Why would they use some other brand? Too big? See them for sale all over the place.

JohnAV. I let you know when you convinced me to rather than get 4 DV UP970's... to get just one that other DV Player.

$Unit Cost + $Tax + $Shipping + $Best BuyMagnoliaAV Protection/Replacement cost

I feel getting 4yr Geek Protection Plan is MAJOR. Its my Door to replacing broken unit with new 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 year models. For like $30 Bucks

I paid $279 for my UP970. So my BB Exchange Cash can get a lot in the years ahead

Wow, what a mess. Mine is relatively quiet but some discs have been noisy like the Martian. I wonder if this return policy is available in Canada. I bought the player strictly for DV and at this point it’s clear we aren’t getting it. I was told by several reps it will happen this quarter but LG is a joke and I don’t trust them. I would rather return for a refund and get the Oppo. I had the 103 and loved it. I also miss multi region play back. I will never buy another LG product again after this. It really pisses me off that I invested months of research picking a panel that is future proof, I was very excited to see a disc in DV and I still haven’t been able to. I’m going to wait until mid January and if we still have no DV update I will definitely return and get the Oppo.

I've heard mixed to negative things about this player, was going to get the LG UP970 until I've heard it had noisy disc drive problems, so I settled on LG's latest 4K player the UP875 instead for about $100 during Black Friday week. The UP875 may not have any smart features (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) nor Dolby Vision (don't have a Dolby Vision TV anyway), but in everything else it's an improvement over LG's older model the UP970.

Interesting UP970 realization.

Import 1080p Blu Ray movie "Zulu", staring Orlando Bloom, won't play in couple my High-End Disc Players nonLG. I cleaned the disc. Tried several times. Still won't play. Disc is new.

Inserted it my LG Up970. It plays fine! Why is that???

This Blu Ray is an Import. Its has lots audio spoken in Dutch(?) South African Language. Like the Boars would speak.

Can I import 1080p blu rays for my UP970 from UK, France, Hong Kong, etc and will it play fine?

My UP970 was gotten from Best Buy.

If you are temped to buy this player by the low price, just make sure you test as many discs as you can within the return window. Not all players have this problem, my brothers player has been relatively quite, nothing like mine was.

I wish I could say the same. When I first got this, it did play nicely. As I buy more 4K discs, it has gotten worse; and discs that were quiet have now become noisy. Some unbearably so. My two biggest regrets are not returning this when I could, and not getting the protection plan so I could return it after.

The only advantage this has over my ATV 4K right now is Atmos and YouTube HDR (which isn't all that great as it is.) I'll probably contact LG after Christmas, hopefully they will surprise me with an acceptable response.

You have to send it back to LG at least twice. After that, you need to send it back for a third (and final) time. Within a few days of LG receiving it, someone will contact you via email to give you an option of a new player or a full refund. Make sure that you have proof-of-purchase (I just sent a photo of my Best Buy receipt).

The representative from LG that contacted me said my refund check won't be sent until after Christmas
