This. I sometimes think that a lot of people don't actually understand what HD is. And I mean even on this forum.

Like I said it seems like people can't enjoy what's released anymore, always complaining and trying to prove something is wrong.

The DVD's colouring is more natural/realistic looking, therefore I prefer it and assume it to be correct. The bluray sometimes leans towards a red/brown tint which looks wrong to me. This is my own preference. If Don Coscarelli says the new framing and color timing is correct - or maybe just that, approved - then so be it. That might be his preference. I'm not gonna be the one to say he's wrong, but maybe he didn't examine it in great detail. Maybe he's looking at these comparisons here thinking "oh... I wasn't aware of this". Maybe he's thinking "what do these jackasses know about how I want my film to look". I don't know. I'm just expressing my opinion. I'll leave that VHS comment alone though, as I've no idea what it's supposed to mean. |

It was the first thing I noticed when I started the movie and I find it extremely annoying. What's odd is that it's not present on Universal's DVD and I'm fairly sure both releases are from the same master.

Huge fan of the Phantasm saga myself since i rented part 1 when i was 4 and thought it was a neat mix of horror, sci-fi and fantasy. I actually saw Phantasm 2 in theaters when i was 7 3 times with my big brothers and my uncle and dad as we dug it, one of my favorite sequels ever.
Scream Factory did an excellent job of improving over Universal's terrible grainy bareboned DVD which only had one extra being a trailer and this one of the best blu-rays of 3 genres (horror-fantasy-sci-fi) i've ever seen. It gave us satisfying extras to fans like myself and the picture quality is excellent as it's devoid of digital noise reduction and it is a huge improvement over the grainy universal DVD. Scream never fails to amaze me with their unique library of sci-fi, horror, thriller and cult films. |
