Just finished watching this Netflix. HOLY F***ING S***!!! 10/10, bar none. THIS is what action movies should look and sound like. Yeah, it may have been a little slow at the start, and yes, *maaaaybe* it could've been about 10 minutes shorter. But that doesn't matter. The action scenes were choreographed so well. No shaky-cam, no quick cuts, no close-ups. I actually had a sense of scale and what was happening. And I loved every second of it.

And the plot? Ya know what, at it's core is was a pretty simple scheme the bad guys cooked up. But it kept us in the dark, guessing, as the light slowly dimmed on and the truth was revealed. The characters (mainly Helen) were in the dark the same as us. This film took a rather generic plot that could've had the credits going after 82 minutes and it held your interest for nearly 2 hours.

Tom may be looking a little tired in the face, but ya know what else? They executed the action in such a way that I didn't even take Tom's real life size into account. It really is amazing how, when a film is done right, you actually can stop thinking critically and immerse yourself in the fantasy. Something that film was always meant to do but oftentimes these days everyone likes to nitpick.

Man, as hyped as I am about this film though, for me it's all bittersweet. Without naming any examples, I think it's a real damn shame which action movies make all the money and get all the recognition, when a little film like this shows us how it should be done, and gets completely dismissed critically and commercially.

I also think it's a damn shame that Arnold, Stallone, and even Van Damme aren't young anymore. I am NOT, in any way saying I would've enjoyed this movie more if any of them starred in it. What I am saying though is that it's a shame that the right people, namely, the people responsible for SMART action movies like this, aren't dialing their numbers anymore.

Anyway, I think I may have to stop in my nearest Barns & Nobles, as I've got some reading to do. Here's to a sequel or 3 in the future!!
