It's not mere speculation: Lynch has indicated myriad times on how the 1950s aesthetic informs his art. Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks stand as principal exemplars of this, but there are vestiges in Eraserhead, Wild at Heart, and especially Mulholland Drive, as you mention above..

I doubt it considering the history of the film ie TV pilot with a few newly filmed scenes for a tacked on ending. As I said I thought she was great in it, Laura on the other hand......shudders!

You're right about the Oscars too, she at the very least deserved a nomination!

Yes he has stated that quite a few times. When you watch the TP series now, the acting is VERY much styled that way.

If something is going to be released, there will be an announcement stating release date, specifications, etc.

By stating as fact that their will be a release, you're setting people up for disappointment and/or frustration if it isn't released. The problem's source, of course, lies with Criterion: it should not be toying with its customers.
I definitely think they have the rights, and will eventually release it, but I'm sort of in the same boat. They haven't even announced all of the films hinted in last year's New-Years picture, let-alone released them.

Lynch should just put it out himself like the 2000 DVD. As long as he's involved, I don't see a Criterion label making the disc any better.

I mean, the sole purpose of the Criterion "wacky drawings" is so that fans can guess what they're working on, and they are clearly working on Eraserhead. Sometimes titles do get hung up waiting for directors to sign off on the features and whatnot (see: Fincher taking years to approve The Game, which was reportedly ready when Benjamin Button was opening, yet only came out two months ago).

Funny how The Straight Story is rarely ever mentioned when talking about Lynch. It's great.

It's a great movie, just probably gets overlooked because there's very little surrealism to be found in it.

Its certainly Lynch's straightest film!

And also the Lynch film I watch the least by far. I think Ive only seen it twice. I certainly dont want it on blu (unlike every other Lynch film).

Default Lynch blu rays

I don't diss Criterion but the David Lynch blu rays of Eraserhead and Lost Highway have been available since last year on Capelight Pictures (I believe it's a German company). I ordered them from a place in France - grooves-inc.com - at a competitive price with only $2.65 shipping for any size order! I also got their edition of Waking Life in blu ray. Make sure you're not ordering a region 2 disc or a PAL disc.

Default regions

I email them (if necessary) and ask them but usually the info can be gotten from the label or the net in general. They do however indicate if something is not region 1 or A by noting what region it is (or that it is PAL).

Australia has also released various Lynch titles on Blu ray. In fact I think it was the first country to release Lost Highway, Eraserhead and Wild at Heart on Blu along with France.

Anyway I think this Criterion of Eraserhead is going to be the most anticipated release ever for me. I've waited years for Criterion to release a Lynch film.

Wouldn't Japan be the best place to get Lynch Blu-rays from? They are the same region as the US.

they are obviously also very expensive from Japan, but since Criterion's are already top dollar, why not throw another 30 bucks onto the price for the import.

speaking of 'The Elephant Man' I remember being really scared from the movie when I saw this as a kid in the theater, but as an adult who watched the import bluray a few years back, I was struck by how utterly sad and devastating this movie is; it knocked for a loop ... I did the opposite of my initial reaction, I cried.
