Got to see a 35mm print a few years back, brought some friends who'd never seen it. It was wonderful. Too bad the theater, since revamping, no longer has a film projector. What a waste.

prefer the MoC release (no digi and higher video bitrate)
but the movie is amazing and a lot of fun ! watched it already 3 times

Love the soundtrack.. should get a CD

the Cover Criterion used is awesome ! but no digipack fan...

Higher bitrate or not, the Criterion release looks better judging by the caps.

http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ID=235#auswahl

One could make the argument that opening the matte to 1.78 sucks, but it's never bothered me personally, and the better color and contrast tweaks on the Criterion make it the winner in my mind. It also looks better compressed; a high bitrate won't mean much if the encoding isn't done well.

Helps that I dig digipaks, also. That art on the Criterion package is too cool.

The UK steelbook is much nicer in the flesh than on a screen trust me.

Both designs are nice in their own way, so if you're a huge fan get both. I gotta say that Criterion's disc art is probably the coolest and most clever design gimmick I've seen of any DVD/blu ray. And there are other reasons other than cover art to get both version - they each have some exclusive extras that the other one doesn't have, and the film is presented in slightly different aspect ratios on the two versions. Crtierion's image quality is better but it's not night and day better and Eureka's is still pretty nice.

Did anyone order the Criterion from Amazon over the recent months, and if so what condition did it arrive in? Were the corners mashed in and rounded?

Does anyone else have problems with their Repo Man (Criterion) disc? I've played it many times since I received it this monday with three possible results:

1. It plays fine
2. It starts skipping
3. The screen freezes, goes black and the disc reloads

Any of these three seem to happen at random, like a lottery. I don't think that there's anything wrong with my player (Oppo). It's possible that this is one lone faulty disc, but there's also a possibility that the Repo Man discs have been pressed in some factory with poor quality standards like some of the earlier Criterion blu ray releases. I've already posted about it in the disc rot thread.

I've been too lazy to double dip on this. The MoC is very damn good.

I just got this not too long ago and I'm all over this Criterion release. I flippin' love everything about this edition. The cover art, the mock punk flyers, the "generic" disc layout and the sweet booklet. I think I've seen the film about five times now since I recently upgraded to the Criterion(though my dvd from Universal was still pretty good). Its really making me double think The Road Warrior as my all-time favorite movie.

I even have my Repo Man soundtrack getting heavy play time.

I read on imdb that Repo Man makes reference to the 81/82 horror film The Beast Within. I couldn't catch the reference in the film, and couldn't find any info online. Any one know what it could be?
Love both films. The Criterion looks fantastic.
Lex Luthor: Miss Teschmacher, some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.Miss Teschmacher: Lex, what has chewing gum got to do with the secrets of the universe?Lex Luthor: [sighs] Right, Miss Teschmacher. Right.

Repo Man fans should check out Night of the Comet. I kept thinking how similar they looked, with what look like some of the same locations and the neon colors, and learned the director took most of the crew from Repo Man. It also has Dick Rude.
Makes a nice double feature. Both the CC Repo Man and the Arrow Night of the Comet look fantastic. Haven't seen the rival editions.

This is the first Criterion I ever watched, and I still love it.

There are very few films that I can't get tired of, and this is one of those.
