I actually timed it the last time I watched the film. From the moment the fight starts to the moment Zod hits the floor, it takes about five and a half minutes. That's it. That's what all the fuss was about. Five and a half minutes of destruction.
I had an issue with the fight the first couple times I watched it, but more recently I've realized it wasn't such a big deal after all. It was blown out of proportion.

It was. Especially since Zod had just vowed to kill every last human being. I doubt he would've followed Superman, had he tried to direct him out of town.

People who complain about the amount of destruction clearly haven't seen any Superman of JL cartoon; everytime Supes fights someone at least one building comes down. But of course in a cartoon, people don't care what happens to buildings and civilians; it's only when it's live-action do audiences realize that people might actually get killed by Superman and another super battling it out.

I really disliked Man Of Steel. BvS is a better movie overall. It does have it's share of issues but it's never boring even when scenes are not working. This does feel like a bit of a rush job from DC though. It's like they want to get to that Justice League movie as soon as possible so they can count their moolah. I would have liked to have seen at least a stand alone Affleck Batman just to establish his take of on the character. But then again, given the creative forces at work, maybe not...

Is there a new version coming? I was going to purchase this but saw Amazon had something releasing on July 19th? Anything different beside the price?

Probably just a re-release with a new cover to put out with BvS.

That's exactly what it is. I know they're doing with the same with the new* Dark Knight Trilogy set they just put on out as well.

*new in the loosest sense imaginable of course.

If Man of Steel has a new cover that I end up loving, I'll be asking an employee if I can just have the slip... Never been a fan of the standard cover.

If it was Fox they would've had a new slipcover and digital copy to go with the same disc double-dip to coincide with the release lol.

Can someone please tell me the difference between the old 3-disc 3D release (2013) and the new 2-Disc 3D release (2016)? According to the backs of the cases, they have the same content. Is the difference that the new set doesn't have a dedicated 2D disc?

I have no idea, but if I were to guess I'd say Warners have dropped the bonus disc which contains the Maximum Movie Mode-esque runthrough of the film (which I watched just the other night and is excellent, incidentally) and the case is wrong, which wouldn't be the first time Warners have done that. Or the database entry for the 2016 is wrong. Or...I dunno.

Anyhoo, I'm starting to seriously love this flick.

I wanted to like this movie. Admittedly, I went in with high expectations, but I thought the names behind the movie, the actors and the beautiful trailer justified my high hopes.

And - at first - I thought it was all going to work out. For the first 40 minutes or so, this movie is awesome. Krypton, an ALIENated Clark Kent doing odd jobs on earth, a confused boy trying to cope with his powers...

Some reviewers have bashed the movie for being too serious, but there's nothing wrong with a little seriousness, or a little reverence towards the character. In the first half, I think the tone is perfect. A little dark, sure, but it all feels like we're building up towards something truly awesome. Then, kind of suddenly, the main story with Zod and the action starts. And, as much as I love action movies, I really wished it hadn't.

When the serious actions starts, all coherent story telling stops. In the blink of an eye the movie goes from feeling like a sci-fi Batman Begins to Transformers 3 minus the nuanced story telling. Suddenly Superman is here and we get these big sweeping beautiful scenes, and they're just completely boring and out of place. And I don't even want to talk about the totally contrived Lois Lane - Superman romance. (Lots of sighs, and "WTF?" comments at the theater I was in).

I kept waiting for it to recapture the tone of the first half, but the action just keeps getting bigger and dumber. In the middle of the unending action spectacle of the second half, I actually nodded off.

This movie had the creative talent, and the actors to make something really great. And I feel like without a Michael Bay explosion quota maybe they could have done it here... But in the end this is a missed opportunity.

The final fight does go on a little long, but that's only the last 20 minutes or whatever. I never thought the story or threat had any "dumb" issues, it was a pretty smart threat plot about genetic engineering, destiny and who your actual people are, the genetic ones or moral ones.
