That's right, lens flare. Heard that term before but couldn't remember the name. Seems weird to me that they would think over doing it on the lens flaring is a cool effect and do it on purpose, because it's not. Oh well, I'll try and do as you say, try to ignore that aspect of the movie and enjoy the story for what it is.
They liked it so much, that they extended the exaggerated lens flare even in the CGI shots, to match the degree of lens flare in the anamorphic lens shots of the rest of the live action. It definitely is unique compared to most movies.

May, then add 3 to 4 months, for a predicted September 2013 release on blu ray 3D for Star Trek Into Darkness 3D.

Conversion Quality - 3.5/5
3D Creativity - 1/5
Overall, I really enjoyed the story and the action scenes. The movie was a lot fun, but it was disappointing as a big screen 3D art experience.
Glad you enjoyed the movie. Would you also describe your parameter of 3D Creativity as 3D storytelling?

Agreed. With certain lenses, as the object nears the edge of the screen, warping increases.

I guess 3D is weak in other aspects as well?
The 3D wasn't weak but very good with nice layering.

Yes (although my definition of 3D story-telling does not necessarily include taking the parallax all the way down to zero during quiet moments). "3D planning" would also work. It's my subjective rating of how well the filmmakers designed their scenes to be enhanced by the third dimension and how well they use it to fully visualize the drama and intensity of the action and the story.

How well does the 3D serve the story? Is the movie a 3D experience, or is it closer to a 2D-style movie with 3D depth? Did they actually set up the scenes any different than standard 2D movies? Did they try anything original with 3D that is new to me? Do characters and objects move around in 3D space for dramatic effect, or is it mainly just horizontal movement and camera cuts? Did the 3D actually help set the tone and increase the emotion of the story (beyond just seeing objects with volume)? Are the compositions well-populated, making use of foreground and background, and pleasing to look at in 3D, even in dialogue scenes? Did they avoid ugly framing mistakes like window violations and cutting off the top of heads?

Basically, just anything about the artistic, creative use of 3D that I can think of and that sounds somewhat reasonable.

Thanks Bleed. Well explained.

For Trek 3, it'd be nice if they consider 3D cameras if possible. Then amp up the 3D a bit more.

The lens flare is not unique it is in all of Abraham's films and it is ****ing annoying as hell!

I find that the best sequence in 3D, was when they were at Kronos. During the action, it almost felt like looking through a window. This is a movie that deserves the 3D treatment and it holds up the whole way. Even the lights on the bridge of the Enterprise were neat in 3D.

I hear you about the lens flare.
"Unique" when comparing it to non Abrams movies.

I find it hilarious that so many people get so pent-up over lens flares lol (go ahead and hang me lol :P ). To me they feel natural to the Trek film universe that Abrams presents and add alot of atmosphere and they don't bother me in the slightest or distract me.

One of the few instances I enjoyed my 3d more than the 2d visit. (4 visits 3x 3d 1x 2d). I loved the high warp sequence with the Vengeance. That ship was a Hornet (loved it's sound too)
