Ever since BB combined the Blu-ray & DVD titles, things have been wonky with them (it has gotten better but no where near as good as when they had the BD & DVD titles separated).

You are right John, exactly a year today. Happy 1-year anniversary Oppo 203!
And you are correct too; many firmware updates during that course have improved that player considerably. Chapeau Oppo! ...And to team Pariseau.

My new copy of Blade Runner The Final Cut played all the way through without any issues. Happiness has been restored.

Not at all. I love the player but have taken comments about issues from respected members here seriously and wondered out loud if Oppo could fix it. It seems they may already have.

Shortly after my first copy of Blade Runner failed to play properly, I decided to email Oppo directly about my problem to see what, if any, advice they would offer.

They responded to me within a matter of HOURS. That in itself surprised me. While their suggestions did not get my clearly defective disc to work, Oppo remained interested in my dilemma. They wanted to know if my replacement disc worked and when I told them it did, they wrote me a third time just to tell me they were glad.

I am extremely impressed by Oppo's customer service. I can not imagine that any of the electronic giants that manufacture 4K disc players would have shown any where near this much concern for my problem, yet alone respond within hours and continue to follow-up with me. Oppo makes a fantastic player and they provide first class service. I can not remember the last time I praised the customer service of an electronics manufacturer.

Agree completely. Hsu Research is like that also. I use to call and Dr. Hsu would sometimes answer the phone.

And this, among many other reasons, is precisely why I have zero issues dropping $500+ for a player made by Oppo.

FYI, as of this moment, Oppo has some refurbished 203's available. I just picked one up. Savings of $110.00 over a brand spanking new unit. I bought a 103D (Darby edition) refurbished and it looked brand spanking new when I got it plus new everything including the bag and box. The 103D has preformed flawlessly by the way.

So, if you're on the fence about the 203, and want to save a few $$$, go there now, as I'm sure they'll be gone very, very quickly.

Has anyone with a 2:35 screen played around with the 21:9 feature ? I have a JVC RS400 and I just use the zoom feature on that, but was wondering if there were benefits or uses with the one in the OPPO.

One question, I just upgraded to dolby atmos, now, when I play a disc, on the receiver it says " dolby atmos " but when pressing the info button on the oppo, it says dolby truehd 7.1. Is this ok or do I have to set up something on the Oppo?

As long as it's set to bitstream it should be fine, and it sounds like it is if the receiver is recognising Atmos data.

The player sends the TrueHD 7.1 and the receiver decodes the Atmos audio content, all is good.

It was discussed briefly on another forum from another website few months ago; Oppo offered it, and recently it resurfaced again:

Everything's fine. The Oppo doesn't have an Atmos decoder, so only "sees" the core TrueHD 7.1 metadata tag, not the object & positional metadata extension file tag.

Would that hold true for the 205 too, that one has independent outputs for all channels right? or is it only 7.1/5.1 output on the RCA's?

The 205 cannot decode Atmos either, so it's the same as the 203 in that respect.

They just send the data along to an external decoder.
