Looking at upgrading from my xbox one S for my 4k player. I need some help on selecting which to get. My TV is a Samsung 65KS8000.

First off what is the difference between the K8500 and the M8500 player.

Is there a PQ upgrade with the M9500 over the M8500?
Any other major difference between the two, besides the HDMI outports?
Currently at BB there is a $172 difference in price.

Should I consider the X800 over either Samsung player?

Any help would be great!

M8500, like the M9500, has better picture quality than the K8500. The chroma bug that plagued the K8500 has been fixed. It has a better remote, better UI, and it supports HDR10+, HLG, and YouTube HDR.

No difference in picture quality or performance between the M9500 and M8500.

Only other differences are bluetooth connectivity and a front OLED display on the M9500.

I had the Sony X800. It's a good player, but the 2017 Samsung player has better picture quality in my opinion, and it supports HDR10+. Thus, I have to give it the edge.

Thank you!

Have you read or heard much of a PQ upgrade with the M8500 over the Xbox?

And would you say getting the M8500 over the M9500 is fine, or is there something about the M9500 you would recommend me getting instead?

Any standalone player will be an upgrade over the Xbox. The Xbox has color reproduction issues.

If you need 2 HDMI out, then that would probably be the only reason to go for the M9500. Otherwise, you should be good with the M8500.

Sorry, I am still learning all of this still. What would a 2nd HDMI be good for? Is it for sound?
Currently I have a BOSE 2 speaker with Base box. It is hooked up with digital connection.

Is the $158 price point one of the best or has it been cheaper for the M8500?

Yes, the 2nd HDMI out would be for audio.

$158 is probably the lowest the M8500 has been so far (that I've seen.)

Hey Guys,

Not a lot of information on the M7500 out there so I thought I would post here, but it looks like it might be the perfect UHD BD player for me. Can anyone confirm that this it the same audio / video as the Samsung M8500 and Samsung M9500? I don't need wifi (M8500 and M9500 have this)and only need one HDMI out (M9500 has two), so as long as I am getting the same A/V quality as the 8500/9500, I would love to save the money and pick up the M7500 and put it toward some UHD Blu Ray discs. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Greg

The M7500 should give you the same performance. Just no wifi, like you said.

I’m hoping somebody might have an idea what is causing/how to fix an issue I’m currently having with the M8500.

For background, I am not using the player on a 4K TV yet, but rather an HDTV that’s a few years old.

Overall, the player works fantastic and most Blu-Rays look great, however I am running into a bizarre issue with select discs (specifically every disc in season 4 of Game of Thrones).

While most movies I’ve tried look great, the Game of Thrones picture is vibrant but REALLY dark, so much so that any night or interior scenes can sometimes be almost unwatchable. Turning up brightness or the backlight helps slightly, but this shouldn’t be necessary when other discs play fine on my usual picture settings?

Now, the really bizarre part is that if while an episode is playing, I navigate to the Home menu and go into Settings (and thus stopping the disc) select “HDMI Deep Color” and press OFF (even though I already have it turned off), the picture is normal and bright when I turn the disc back on. However, if I remove the disc from the player and put it back in, the picture is dark again. Same if I OFF on HDMI Deep Color before actually starting the disc, only seems to have an effect if an episode is already playing.

This is super strange, does anyone have any idea why only certain discs behave this way and have any recommendations for how to stop it or have the settings permanently set so the picture is brighter without having to stop the disc? I’ve already tried re-setting my player to factory settings.

My UBD 9500M gave me a notification that there's a software update. Anybody tried it yet?

For what it's worth, these players are going to receive HDR10+ playback/decoding, expected sometime within the next 6 months.
