This thread really belongs in the wishlist section. Most of the posts now are people wishing for titles. It's painfully obvious this Warner/Paramount deal fizzled out, which I'm not surprised by one bit. You've got a studio climate where catalog titles are seen as a waste of time - why one studio would take on another's library when they barely release their own titles I'll never understand. OTOH, Warner is acting as a "third party" for Paramount's films. By that logic, why doesn't Paramount license to outfits like Shout Factory or Kino? Surely these independent labels will get more mileage out of some titles. People have been requesting THE KEEP since the beginning, for example. Warner isn't interested but Shout would probably make a killing if they market it as a limited collector's edition and throw in some goodies and a nice slipcover.

Paramount didn't want to market their lower-end catalog films on home video anymore, after firing everybody in their home video department. They had already built up a decent back catalog of Blu-rays, so they partnered with WB to distribute them. WB did get them more exposure in places like Walmart, mostly as bargain bin fodder.

Hey, this distribution deal is still alive! Coming soon, the major motion picture classic

And that probably never will make it to BD.

Crazier still how obscure films from one studio will be on BD, but huge hits from another (cough, PANIC ROOM, cough) are not.

I have a feeling King Kong won't see the light of day now until the new Skull Island movie hits in two years.
4k... really? The law of diminishing returns is fully in sight.

Yeah, it's becoming ridiculous. If I did a sort of the most popular films (based on number of IMDb votes) that aren't on Blu-ray, I bet that most of them will be controlled by Warner.

On the other hand MGM is licensing out their library to anybody, and it's their catalog more than anyone else that is seeing the light of day on Blu-ray thanks to them.

Glad to see this coming out there for the 100th anniversary of the battle, I'll definitely pick it up. I don't see any chance of Paramount ever releasing it here, though maybe they'll license it to Criterion (fingers crossed).
