It`s native.

Plenty of pop out shots and strong 3D shots with layering out of the screen. The 3D isn't strong all the way through but still stronger overall than the four other films I first mentioned. I think you will have to import a copy from Europe or Asia if you want it?

This one was just bad all round.

The 3D looks really "off" on it when its "on" and then next shot it looks the same as 2D. Really strange.

But after watching World War Z last night Im starting to think that the quality of conversions is or can be better than so called "native" titles, especially one like this.

There wasnt any pop outs really at all and no use of negative parallax generally. People dont waste your $15 or hour and a half...

Was The Pirate Fairy released in 3D in theaters? If it was, will a 3D version be released on disc later on?

I found my answer. It was released in 3D in theaters in the US and other parts of the world, but there is currently no US 3D release. It may, however, be released in 3D elsewhere in the world at a later date.

Well the cameras where not, but all the cgi was natively rendered in 3d, which makes up the overwhelming majority of the film.
Display: Panasonic 65vt60 with a darbee darblet, Benq w7000.
Audio: Benchmark Dac1 ->DNA Sonett -> Sennheiser HD800 (balanced).

I know it's a bit early for the Blu-Rays themselves, but I've been scouring the internet trying to figure out if a handful of upcoming movies were shot in native 3D -- I'd appreciate anyone's help in getting the answers.

Ghost in the Shell (2017)
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Blade Runner 2049
Alien: Covenant -- I assume this is native 3D, because it's done by Ridley Scott, but I've read rumors that at least part of it has been filmed using 2D cameras. Don't know how to confirm this.

[EDIT] Also, after having seen "Fantastic Beasts" in theatres, I assume it was a post-conversion, because it definitely did not look like native 3D.

Blade Runner is being shot by Roger Deakins and he doesn't like shooting in 3D, so that's a no. And realorfake3d.com says that Alien Covenant is native.

Real or Fake's closing down is making these much tougher calls to make.

Pity to hear about Resident Evil: The Final Chapter--listed as native at the site--which has been revealed to be a conversion. 'Afterlife' and 'Retribution' are my top two, shot-in-3D titles.

The first three are conversions. Alien: Covenant remains to be seen. Despite Scott's past history of native 3D x 3, no stereographers are listed under the IMDB credits.

The usual grain of salt caution applies, but as one guy who knows a guy has it, there was a change of heart on ALIEN: Covenant and the shoot reverted to 2D (possibly prior to the start of production).

If true, another major blow to the process.

What are the odds X-men Apocalypse will be the last, major studio film shot natively?

I still expect Ang Lee and James Cameron to continue shooting native. There will be other one-and-done type directors who try their hand at native 3D as well. But yes, conversion technology has taken over by convenience, and that's a big personal disappointment for my 3D viewing habits.

Of course, Cameron. I guess I began to tune news of his Avatar sequels out, it's been so long since they were announced. If he goes native again, taking 3D visuals to the next level, maybe he'll spur new interest in the format.

Still haven't had a chance to see any of Lee's films in 3D, but Life of Pi's been on my radar for a long time. Looking forward to it.

Thank you so much for the information! But man...if we've lost Ridley Scott...that's huge.

Even when the movie wasn't stellar -- like Exodus: Gods and Kings -- the 3D images were absolute art IMO.

I mean, I've seen some pretty good conversions, but you can always tell when a film has been shot in Native 3D. There's no mistaking the difference.
