$78 Magnavox NB500MG1F , anyone got one?

I had one of the Magnovox series (MG500A I think)... Bought it after black Friday last year because I got a good deal on it, but I would recommend going with a better brand at this point just because the price has come down so much on standard BD players.

Performance wise... it was slow, but it worked. So if you're just looking for the cheapest basic BD player you can get based on price... go for it.

I recently upgrade to PS3 for the living room and Vizio for the bedroom... much more pleased with those options for BD playback... Internet apps rock too (for those that would use them)

Does anyone know what the latest firmware update is for this, and where I can find it? Magnavox's site only lists the 1.019, but I installed that almost a year ago.

It is likely that that is indeed the latest firmware and Magnavox is no longer supporting the player as far as firmware updates are concerned. It looks like the player was released over three years ago? I'd suggest calling Magnavox at the support number listed at their site for "TV, DVD, Blu-ray Disc Player, Home Cinema."

Respectfully, these Funai players are cheap. It would hardly be unheard of that an older model which is no longer seeing firmware updates is having problems playing "newer" BDs. Heck, that happens with the "big guys," Sony and Panasonic.

Well, it played "Men in Black 3" just fine Sunday night, but the first "Back to the Future" kept freezing at the 12:55 mark. Nothing like this had happened until then. I'm going to a video store tonight, to see if the disc will work on their player. If not, I'll have to repurchase the set.

I got one of those too and got this in 3 years ago in May at Walmart. So I didn't see this thread.

I bought ones of these a while back, and was recently told they quit making updates for it. My old DVD player lasted ten years by comparison.

I picked up 6 of these for $50 each when one of my Walmarts was getting rid of old black friday stock. I sold all of them except one (which is in my bedroom) and have NEVER had even a single problem with it. My $500 combo player in comparison has just been boxed up after years of issues including nights where I couldnt watch my new blus because of firmware. On those nights where my new blus wouldnt play, I would grab this player from the bedroom and bring it out to the living room. Keeps going like a champ.
