My 4 year old rubbed the eraser end of a pencil all over my SamsungPN58C550. A lot of the rubber streaks came off, but a couple spots (1" x 3/4") almost appear clear. Im not sure if the "anti glare" coating is on the outside and has been damaged or the clear spots are rubber residue. I didnt want to make a bad thing worse by additional rubbing/cleaning. Ive called Samsung twice and they cant help because they say they havent seen my screen in person. Does anyone have a safe suggestion of how i could remove, clean, or fix this?

is it just me, or does it seem if samsung valued you as a customer, they'd send someone out or request pictures? o.O that sucks, i hope your screen isn't permanantly damaged!

I upgraded to a LG LED TV and have had no problems since. I also have had no problems with a Sony HD TV that I have that is now 9 years old (4 Years older than the junk Samsung). If you are looking for any help from Samsung, you will be surely disappointed.

It doesn't sound good, but I'd try the only screen cleaning method recommended by Pioneer for KUROs ...
Tepid (slightly warm) distilled water and a HIGH QUALITY microfiber. Wet the cloth only moderately, you don't want it dripping wet. Obviously, NEVER spray the screen directly. If that doesn't work and you're at the point where you have nothing to lose, you might also try using an Endust for Electronics pre-moistened wipe. I've used them on many modern electronics displays (phones, etc.) with good results and no damage, but I haven't tried them on a TV, so YMMV. |

I wish I could help, but having a 3 and half year old I am sympathetic. It's like they have a switch that goes off. I'll also echo that Samsung, like most companies these days, has the worst customer service. I've had to deal with them with both my BD player and smart phone with little positive results. Hopefully one of the other members suggestions are more helpful.
Do you really have something to say or are you just in love with the sound of your keyboard?

that is part of the reason i went w/ panasonic for plasma, since it seems i read more random problems than led lcd. I heard they have better service and stand by their products.

If you can get to a tv repair shop,or somewhere that sells tv's and has a junker, you could rub an eraser on that screen and try using duck tape to remove any residue. The duck tape trick will remove left over sticky tape residue so it's worth a try and you could also try one of those handy wipes you get with food at restaurants.
Good luck with that.

After further investigation, I found out that my television has a surface applied, liquid coating on the exterior panel used as a secondary antiglare layer. It is evidently not eraser resistant. I also found out it can't be repaired. Its my understanding I can either deal with the streaking and spots caused by the rubbed off coating or I can attempt to remove it all somehow and just have a clear glass panel. Any thoughts?

I have a Panasonic PX80U, basically the 720p version as you...I used this stuff on my screen and it worked great!
iKlear (you can find cheaper on amazon or ebay etc) A Dishnetwork installer mentioned it to me while he was at my house, they just started selling it (with their brand name of course), but I had the worst smudges on my screen that normal water and cloth did not remove. Figured my TV was old enough I had nothing to lose, but this stuff took it right off. |
