Default Gamera (1965)

Source

Finally, a legit U.S. DVD is due out for Gamera and Shout! will be releasing the film here in the U.S. in widescreen. Release date is May 18, 2010. So far, only a DVD is announced, hopefully a Blu-ray release will be released soon. I'd get them if they released them in the U.S. To give a brief quote the article:

Quote:
Here's a snippet from Shout!'s press release: From Japan, the country that brought us such mythical movie monsters as Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra, storms Gamera, the titanic terrapin feared by adults and loved by children. On May 18, 2010, Shout! Factory will unleash GAMERA, THE GIANT MONSTER Special Edition on DVD for the first time in its unedited, original version, with English subtitles — in anamorphic widescreen from an all-new HD master. The DVD includes a 12-page booklet with an essay by the late director Noriaki Yuasa, a photo gallery, trailers, and more. The collectible GAMERA, THE GIANT MONSTER Special Edition DVD is priced to own at $19.93.

The original U.S. title was Gammera, the Invincible. Shout! got the rights to all the Showa Gamera films.

Will we finally get that clip-recap "Gamera, Super Monster" that never quite came out on video over here?

(And show of hands, how many think Gamera was a Toho monster, and are about to ask "why he didn't battle Godzilla"?--
C'mon, embarrass yourselves, we know there are a few of you... )

Always knew that Gamera was Daiei, which is now Kadokawa. Toho did distribute the 90's Gamera films when Daiei was going under.

I was on Facebook and I am friends with August Ragone. He is the one who is doing the bonus material for the Gamera DVDs and says Shout is only doing DVDs but will be releasing Blu-rays down the road. So, I will be looking forward to the Blu-ray releases.

Yes, it will be coming out. It was the last film in the Showa series. This one is due out in another week and a half. Best Buy has it online for $15 but you have to type in Gammera the Invincible to find it.

All right, I got my copy of it. Very nice, PQ since it was taken straight from the HD source that was used for the Japanese Blu-ray master. The film is in it's original scope presentation which is very nice. The subtitles are in the picture and not in the black bars. I put the screenshots in the spoilers so it won't take up space on the page. Enjoy.
