Plus, you get the added bonus of it probably turning up at around Christmas. So it's a present from you, to you.

Has anyone got this yet? Does it look as dodgy as the Criterion edition? I'm dying to see the film, having just watched and loved Carné's Le Quai des Brumes, but I'm torn between buying or renting.

Curious if this edition looks different than the Criterion or if this edition the French release and Criterion are all the same exact transfer?

I love the Criterion artwork but just shocked over the transfer that was given to Criterion... something tells me they wish it could have been better? maybe?
Stop the Replacing of original Studio Opening / Closing logos! These are becoming endangered and should be kept intact. They are part of film history.

Surely Second Sight and Criterion should have rejected the copy they were provided with forcing Pathe to redo the disc? I'm upset with those who messed up the restoration, but equally sad and surprised to see Criterion and Second Sight release it as is.
No sale.

That's not how contracts work. They were under contract to release the film, and that's the master they were given. Please don't "assume" they can just break a contract for whatever reason. Pathe owns the film, so they have to take what Pathe gives them.

Then the distributors must need some legal staff; some expertise on contracts; specifically, some expertise on drawing-up a contract. Or do you mean that an old distribution deal (for the old Criterion DVD, say) requires it to accept and distribute any new release? If that is not the case, then wouldn't it be prudent to make a new deal (any deal, really) contingent on the provision of an acceptable master?

It is possible that Criterion considers the master it was given to be acceptable; even possible that its contract contained such a contingency.
