The movie was motion captured so the movements are very realistic, much like in Beowulf 3D.

Polar Express 3D says on the back "This pack also includes the 2D version, playable on your Blu Ray Player." Only one disc as mentioned above.

there's something about the faces,eyes and the hands though which look very mannequin-esque - it's both odd and a tad creepy.

It's known as the "uncanny valley."

Good point. It happens when they try to get photo realistic humans. Humans are too sharp not to notice the differences from computer models to real humans. Still a very nice job. Another one worth mentioning is Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.

just watched this for the first time, and i was blown away at the audio/visual in this movie. the 3D was incredible, throughout the entire movie. this movie was meant to be viewed in 3D, i feel bad for anyone that can't see it that way.

when the train pulled up, I felt like it was in my living room (the audio, on my 2.1 system) great sound effects and songs throughout.

overall just a solid movie and 3D quality was really good.

This certainly isn't a release to promote 3D,I watched it earlier today and felt let down with this aspect of the film,it give's you very little over the 2D version,surprisingly maybe but true unfortunately.
Film= Priority,Packaging= Not really bothered.

I spent a lot of money on booze,bird's and fast cars....the rest I just squandered......George Best

Hmm i wonder Should motion capture films try a stylized look more often than trying to mimic Reality

heres two films that use motion capture but with two different looks

Polar Express with a Photo-realism Look

"http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/screenshot.php?movieid=15991&position=16"

And here's Monster house that uses the same technology From polar express with a stylized look

"http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/screenshot.php?movieid=12392&position=7"

now which one is visually pleasing to the eye?
