I am looking hard at the upper end of the mid range line from Onkyo and Denon right now. My original budget was 500-600, but I am having a hard time trying to stay within that. Due to my budget, I almost grabbed the 809 when it was around $500, but didn't. Somehow, I didn't jump on the 818 when it was $680, but that is as high as I could go right now.

What is the real world benefit of Onkyo's "Independent Block Construction (Amp/Preprocessor)"? It looks like that is an omission on the 809 compared to the 1007 and 1009.

Yeah should have jumped on that 818 for $680, it will come around again be patient. I wasn't when I got the 1009 I should have saved up a bit longer to get something that will do 11 channels. I like the 1009 it has been great, but I want more than just 9 channels

No it does not. The first Onkyo receiver to support that is the TX-NR1009
How much would you be willing to sell your 1009 for?

What exactly IS "Neo X", &, is it (the 1009) worth $180 MORE in price.

The TX-NR1009 is a beast, a true 9.2 receiver, independant block construction, higher end, but you do lose out on XT32. So it depends on how much XT32 is an important feature you want.

Edit: NEO-X is a new way of processing your 5.1 and 7.1 tracks to include your heights are wides. There are even movies now with NEO-X (Lionsgate obviously) The Expendables 2 being 1 of them, but they couldn't review the audio, not being equipped for it. For me it would be one of my many important features with movies optimized for 11.1
