Cradle of Life DE vs US:

US is so much better. Double the bitrates of both PQ & AQ.

Judging by the pictures the DE version looks slightly better.

I posted this in the wrong thread. It was suppose to be for Cradle of Life.

Do you have a BD scan of the Warner Disc.

Same digital source, but higher gamma level.

The gamma looks correct on the USA version, and therefore more accurate.

I Have the USA blu-ray of the first film but I see that the UK version says uncut is this version worth importing? does it feature a longer cut and is the transfer any better than the USA version? I have tired to find info elsewhere but could not so I turned to this site which is always reliable an helpful(and at times sarcastic)

Its uncut as in it is now the same version as the US:

Before the Blu-ray release in the UK, shots of a butterfly knife and a headbutt were removed from the film to adhere with the lower 12 certificate.

The UK Blu-ray features a new 15 certificate and the "Uncut Edition" label since Paramount is pretty much using the same masters worldwide. This means the previously cut shots have been restored to the film.

Thank you for the help there does not seem to be any reason to import it the transfers are the same. Was only asking because I heard that the UK had a bit better transfer thanks for the help.

So, just to clarify, the UK blu is not better quality than the US blu? I was considering importing the UK blu, but if they are indeed the same quality, I will just keep my US copy..

Ok, I've been doing some deep research on which version to buy. From what I gathered, PQ and AQ for the first movie is best on the German Blu-ray. Is this correct?

I don't want to purchase until I get a confirmed answer on the German import looking/sounding the best of all the versions out there.

No. Don't know where you got that but I own the German double feature and the UK disc (which I bought second). The only reason I still have the German set is that I've been too lazy to put it up for sale yet. I even bought the US TR2 just so I could sell the German set. From HDs list:

Tomb Raider
US - MPEG-2 18190 kbps 2.35:1, DD 5.1 640 kbps/DTS 5.1 1509 kbps 24-bit (Region free)
UK/SE - AVC 31884 kbps 2.35:1, DD 5.1 640 kbps/DTS 5.1 1509 kbps 24-bit (Region free) Best PQ
DE - VC-1 18009 kbps 2.40:1, DTS-HD MA 5.1 2364 kbps 16-bit, no eng subs (Region free)

Yeah, and even though it isn't lossless it has a high-bitrate (for lossy) DTS audio track in 24 bit. The UK release has the best encode from specs. The US release of the sequel is the best release. I don't have these yet but the editions to own are definitely the UK release of the first one and the US of the second. Although, I'm not sure if a comparison has been done to the UK release of the second film (which may be comparable quality) - in which case just getting the UK releases would also suffice.

I guess I failed at my homework.

There's so much confusion over the audio on all the editions. And there were too many people comparing PQ between them all that I guess I got lost along the way.

The UK Edition it is!

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - UK unless you absolutely must have lossless audio instead of great picture quality. In that case, the German release.

Tom Raider: The Cradle of Life - US bar none.

Did you even bother to read the posts on this page? I answered that question 3 posts ago and 2 folks responded. See the list? MPEG-2 is usually bested by VC-1 which is usually bested by AVA (MPEG-4) - all things being equal. The German edition of TR is marginally better sonically - and louder - but the black crush alone is a serious problem visually. The opening scene where the Illuminati is meeting shows this clearly : Manfred Powell is dressed in black and other than some shine on his buttons no detail is visible, while the Illuminati chiefs are often indistinguishable from their chairs, at times becoming "floating heads" (especially the woman dressed in black to the right of the leader).

And I've seen nothing indicating that the French TR2 is better than the US BD. What's your source on that?
