Interesting that the Amazon U.S. price history started @ $32.19 starting back in May but the discs weren't listed for pre-order until June @ $42.31 and today its listing is @ $40.95.
![]() Very bumpy pricing.

I didn't see this in the theater but thought the trailers were somewhat funny. Don't think I'll run and buy this one blind during release week. I think I'll be looking at grabbing this during the likes of a Black Friday sale. I'm thinking my price range for this is going to top out at $15.

Still hoping they have both the US and UK version of movie are on the blu-ray. Not sure of the video was also different, but obviously the audio differed since different people played some of the cast. Also reported some changes in the dialog.

I saw this in a theater and it was very juvenile the kids I took didn't even finish watching the movie as they got distracted. I was glad when it was over as it was too silly, and the characters were a bunch of idiots. I like pirate movies so I was disappointed. I wasn't impressed with the 3D either.

What more do you expect from an Aardman production....Wallace and Gromit, Flushed away, Chicken Run - all very "over the top" in sillyness....kinda slap-stick comedy with clay really
Just watched this last night for the first time...was surprised at the 3d, being more sufficient than screen breaking there were so many chances for the team to bring the movie into your lounge-room, but sadly it wasnt to be. In saying that the 3d isnt bad at all...nice sense of depth throughout... thought the story was a tad bizarre , and in some places it seemed to get a little dis-jointed from where it originally started out - I would have liked to have seen more of a battle between the pirates to get the "Pirate Of The Year" award....maybe with the other contestants trying to sabotage the Pirate Captains attempt to steal the crown??? (think its based on a series of books though - so they probably couldnt get to far from them) Personally I thought the cast was a little flat....I would have preferred Hugh Laurie (of House fame) as the Pirate captain over Hugh Grant, Laurie would have propelled the comedic factor further... You have to watch the making of extra to really appreciate the time and effort put into stop motion animation! The animation process, the making of sets, minitures, lighting setups, camera rigs.....geez these guys really are talented beyond belief! Interesting to see that originally the movie was going to be a CGI movie, until they made a "test set" to get a feeling of how things would look... Overall its a very polished movie...sure its not going to break-ground in the 3d stakes or have you playing this as reference material unless you are purely showing off the stop-motion animation For me it's Worth a watch.... I bought Pirates! Band of Misfits during the recent Best Buy upgrade and save promotion, and watched it last night. The movie was fun. It was nominated for Best Animated Film at the 2013 Academy Awards. It's very silly, dry British humor with lots of joke references to the real world. I got the major ones, but some of it probably went over my head because I'm not British or maybe not part of the target generation.
The stop-motion animation was interesting. The models were very detailed and very stylized. It's obvious that the filmmakers put a lot of work into their art, especially after watching the featurettes. The only major complaint I have is that the frame-rate looks to choppy, which seems to be a common issue for stop-motion films, and for that reason, I think I prefer CGI. There are a few clever 3D moments, including homages to Jaws 3-D and Friday the 13th Part III, but overall, it seemed like the filmmakers didn't care to use 3D to benefit the story beyond pointing a sword or a spyglass at the the audience. Depth is unoffensive but too subtle, except in designated action scenes. Characters mostly move horizontally, instead of on the z axis, and there's too much fast cutting. To sum, it's a good comedy, and the 3D looks fine but is pretty forgettable. Movie - 4/5 Depth - 3.5/5 Pop-out - 3/5 3D Creativity - 2/5

Really hoped the 3D in this one would be strong but opportune moments never came.

The real problem is that the 3D is never as goofy or over-the-top as the story or the humor or the action. Pirates! would have been great with Madagascar 3-style 3D with stronger depth and more slapstick 3D gags. The 3D didn't do any harm but didn't do enough good either, and the style didn't match the story content, except in one or two spots.

This finally hit my price point during this Upgrade and Save at Best Buy. The 2D has bee $10 for a while now, $5 after. Coupon but the 3D seemed to hold its price. Grabbed it yesterday as it was $20 before coupon. After the $5 off and a $5 RZ certificate, I got it for $10. Pretty happy I held off getting it.

It was quite funny and enjoyable, it irritates some people but the majority of reviews seem very positive.
