$20 diff in retail price. wondering if there is a difference
It's only a $10 difference, but the difference is the more expensive one has the 3D version of the film.

I have the set and the statue is quite nice. My only (minor) gripe is that Bilbo's sword isn't exactly sturdy. Other than that it was well worth it. Even the box it came in is nice and I'm still planning on using the artwork from the box for some kind of Middle Earth project at home.
Roland: What's your name, William? I'm asking you, William Thatcher, to answer me with your name!

#100: Star Wars Original Trilogy Limited Edition Steelbook, #200: No freakin' clue.
#300: Sucker Punch San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive Steelbook - 900 Print Run, #400: From Up On Poppy Hill

Default Walmart "Exclusive"

So I ordered the supposed "Walmart Exclusive" extended version of "The Hobbit" from walmart.com and paid $32.38 hoping it would include some extras otherwise not included on the other Blu-Ray editions. Much to my dismay, there is absolutely NOTHING Exclusive about the edition I received from Walmart except for the higher price tag. It has all the same extras as the 3-disc extended editions sold at all other stores. I could've just bought it for less from Best Buy or Amazon. What's also odd is that Walmart also has the extended edition for sale on their website for $25.94 (the non-"Walmart Exclusive" edition). Also odd is that the copy I received has a sticker UPC code with a different UPC code than the non-Walmart copies.

No offense, but if you had done some research prior to ordering it you could have found out about the lack of extras.

Actually, I did do some research. I looked online to see what exactly was so "exclusive" about the Walmart edition. All I found was information about the DVD Walmart Exclusive, nothing about the Blu-Ray edition. So, I figured I'd take a chance and see what exactly was so unique about it. Now that I got it, I found out the answer is nothing except a different UPC barcode number.

I think Edword may have meant reading/searching this thread - and/or others.

So you "took a chance" and got burned. Do better "research" next time.

This was found with an exhaustive 20 seconds of research.

So I guess their exclusive is just a slimmed-down, cheaper version of the DVD. It specifically mentioned it had the features "The Company of Thorin" and "Durin's Folk: Creating the Dwarves", meaning I guess those are the only special features on it, since they are both part of the regular extended edition's features.
Oh, and the BD was 19.96, and their exclusive DVD was 17.96. Sorry, I didn't notice the price of the 3D.

Out of curiosity would it be worth it for a double dip? I thoroughly enjoyed the extended LoTR and thought the new footage was well worth it. I know I'm waiting for Desolation extended.

Yes. The extras alone are worth it.

Default The Hobbit Extended Steelbook

I put together my own "Hobbit" Steelbook Blu-Ray set: I bought the 5-disc 3D extended BD and removed the 2D BD (I don't own a 3D TV or plan on buying one anytime soon); I sold the other 4 discs (two 3D BDs and two Appendices BDs) on Ebay. I bought the Best Buy 3D Steelbook and put the 2D BD in it. I bought the regular "Hobbit" theatrical BD off ebay cheap and put its "Special Features" BD in the Steelbook. I put the two 3D BDs from the Steelbook in the theatrical case and sold that one on Ebay along with the theatrical movie BD. Kind of an exhausting procedure but I really wanted the Steelbook since I own the "LOTR" trilogy Steelbooks.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement black case for this? One of the clips on the inside of mine broke and I'm looking to get that fixed up. It'd be even better if I could find a replacement with room for an extra disc for my theatrical cut disc.
My eBay feedback can be seen here:

I don't know about best buy, the for Futureshop here in Canada, the 3D steelbook for the extended edition is 3D only, plus the bonus discs. I think that is absolutely stupid, just like it is stupid that the theatrical edition steelbook is 2D only.

Well if they were to include 3D and 2D + special features, that would be too many discs to fit in a G2 steelbook.
