Default John Carpenter's "The Fog" (Collector's Edition) - July 30, 2013

Watching this right now and halfway through. Such a natural-looking and filmic presentation. Colours are very nice. If it's occasionally looking a little rough, I feel it just adds to the atmosphere and vintage feel of the film. Nice job from Shout!
Equipment: Panasonic Plasma 55" TX-P55VT30Y, Dark room + THX setting, OPPO BDP-93EU Multiregion, Creative 2.1 Speakers. 700 Bluray Discs. 100 DVDs left, mostly TV series.

Probably. I got one from them in August with a slip, along with From Beyond (which came out way back in March) also with a slip.

Holy shitty re-issue covers Batman!
I had to stop and do a double take in store today, I thought it was the remake for a second, but it's the MGM dvd (are they really still making these while Scream out-does them on every front?). Ugly!

Terrible. Another attempt at "modernizing" for marketing purposes I suppose.

Just finished watching screams The Fog and I'd have to say I was very disappointed. PQ for the most part was very sub par. I shouldn't have believed all the hype. It looks no better than a poor dvd from the 99 cent bin. Even the beach scene with the boy in the daylight looked horrible.

I tried to keep an open mind because of all the positive reviews, but man does this disc look crappy. That said, it looks better than it's previous dvd version, so this is probably as good as it's ever going to get.

Yes it is an upgrade, but it still shows very poorly overall.

Looked PHENOMENAL to me. The darker changes definitely makes it look much creepier. Always thought the dvds were too bright.

Maybe I'm being too harsh? The first 20 minutes or so were a let down and then many of the darker scenes thereafter. I guess I expected the whole movie to be really top notch and built it up in mind enough that I felt let down. Maybe I'll give it another look in a week or so and see how I feel.

This definitely isn't a phenomenal presentation and I don't know why some are so excited about it. It's certainly not bad and I prefer it to the uk optimum release but I also felt let down and underwhelmed after all the hype.

I also watched amityville 2 by the same company and could not believe there were specs and white spots that weren't cleaned up!

That's exactly it. All the hype led me to believe it was an amazing transfer, so bummer after actually watching it. Still better than the dvd by far, so this is probably as much money as anyone is willing to spend on it to make it look half way ok.

I'm finally getting around to watching my Blu of this and I noticed something near the beginning that I need an opinion about.

In the pre-credit sequence, where Mr. Machen (John Houseman) is telling the ghost story, it moves from a wide shot to a close up. On the blu, it plays as a speed ramp instead of a straight , which I don't remember from previous viewings (though it has been a while). This seems like an error. Can anyone confirm that their copy also has this issue (I'm sure all of them must) and does anyone remember this being present in the DVD?
My Criterion Collection

Please help me acquire these UK slips (in Mint condition): Cross Of Iron, Rasputin The Mad Monk, The Devil Rides Out

A fair few people have noticed the same thing. They've cued up their DVD versions for comparison, ready to break out the torches and pitchforks and.........it's the same on the DVD.
