I have a feeling that once I see "Under the Skin" it may work its way into my Top 5.
"To realize that all your life—you know, all your love, all your hate, all your memory, all your pain—it was all the same thing. It was all the same dream. A dream that you had inside a locked room. A dream about being a person. And like a lot of dreams there's a monster at the end of it."

I love 2001 but I have to be honest in not bumping any of the above for it. If you added in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Superman The Movie, these have been the most frequented movies throughout most of my life.

It also breaks my heart to not include The Abyss.

I posted mine a couple years ago but here they are again:

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
Forbidden Planet
2010
Alien
I agree 5 is not enough but if I had to choose.
The Ghostbusters earned their Stripes and to relax decided to go play golf, but got locked in the Caddyshack by the Gopher with The Blues Brothers who are hiding from a Dragnet but luckily they all escaped to The Great Outdoors, where they met a ranger who turned out to be The Man Who Knew Too Little because everything he said was Lost In Translation.

Star Trek The Motion Picture
Bladerunner
Interstellar
2010
Star Trek 2 TWOK

this list will forever be a merry go round but those titles I can refer to time and again for enjoyment (interstellar the recent addition, I know how that made me feel)
Star Trek Into Darkness, 2001 a space odyssey not far behind

(just seen an old pole on this forum that has me place 2001 above Interstellar, well shit i've got problems, Huston.)

Default Red Dragon's Top 5 Favorite Science Fiction Films...

... in ascending order...

5.) "12 Monkeys"

4.) "Donnie Darko"

3.) "A Clockwork Orange"

2.) "Blade Runner"

1.) "2001: A Space Odyssey"
Dr. Lilian Thurman: Donnie, what did Roberta Sparrow say to you?
Donnie: She said that every living creature on Earth dies alone.

Elijah Price: Now that we know who you are, I know who I am. I'm not a mistake! It all makes sense! In a comic, you know how you can tell who the arch-villain's going to be? He's the exact opposite of the hero. And most times they're friends, like you and me! I should've known way back when... You know why, David? Because of the kids. They called me Mr Glass.

  5. Wall-E
Alien, A Clockwork Orange, The Matrix, Under the Skin, Her, or Close Encounters of the Third Kind among others could easily make my list on any given day as well.
Adam: Why do you waste your time with that second-life bulls**t? Look at you. You're still in jail. You were in jail last week.
Jacob: Yeah, I'm a prisoner. It's called "doing hard time."

. 2. 3. 4.
5. Honorable Mention:
”Always leave boiled rice out for mice and keep lamps dark out of pity for moths.” The ancients had this sort of concern, and it’s really the whole point of life, generation after generation. Without it, one can only be called a blockheaded carcass. - H.Z.

To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by scripture. - T.P.
