For me, the most powerful 3D movies are ones that not only have great looking depth and roundness, but have high points in in visual and 3D effects that match the high points in the story. This combination really boosts the excitement, sells the story, and turns the movie into a special experience. Think the lanterns scene in Tangled, the transformation in Beauty and the Beast, the circus acts in Madagascar 3, the flying scene in How To Train Your Dragon, the chase scene in Hugo, the forest fairies in Avatar, etc.

To me, Ralph had high points in the story and animation and visual effects, but the 3D story-boarding was less inspired and never matched their highs, kind of similar to some of Pixar's re-rendered conversions made without 3D in mind.
Great description!! I, like impossible also stated, understood exactly what you were saying and I agree with you 100%

Managed to get Wreck It Ralph 3D and Red Dawn (2012) for free. Turned out when I inquired about my in store order of Dial M For Murder 3D and had not arrived at my house a few days late...it was cancelled without my knowledge. I was like ''OKAY...you couldn't send me an email or alert me of this a few days ago. I had to find out about the cancellation..that I did not do, the store (BB) did... by coming in the store and asking why it had not arrived yet??!!??'' Oh well....guess I will try Amazon for Dial M For Murder 3D. First and LAST time I order anything in store at Best Buy AGAIN,lol.

Walked away happy though because I got Wreck It Ralph for free..as it turned out with the $40 gc I got from BB for Dial M, my $10 RZ coupons, and the $7 scotts coupon. Still have $4 left on th gc. That will go towards Rise Of The Gurdains 3D, Life Of Pi 3D, and Cirque De Solei 3D.

So I have now seen this like 20 times! My daughter will NOT stop watching it. Every morning when she wakes up...every day nce she gets home from school...oddly enough, I see something new everytime. I don't get sick of this movie. Disney did a great job here. The character development, timing, music, colors, story....everything is perfect for what they were trying to acheive.

So was this movie native 3d or converted? Lion King was converted. Nemo...I'm not sure but I think was converted.

I don't even really know how to tell to be honest.

Animated films are just re rendered in 3D as opposed to a 2D reder.

I posted this on the Beauty and the Beast thread also but here anyway. This article that talks about Pixar 3D re-releases. It goes deep into the process in explaining how it isn't just a "conversion" but a "recreation". So Nemo / all Disney 3D movie re-releases so far are not your typical post-conversions. They even mentioned where they had to re-work a scene for the sake of 3D.

Picked this up today (it's out in the UK Monday). The 3D was very good! The movie was a bit of a mixed bag, I loved all the old school references and characters, but I can't stand typical cutesy Disney stories like the young girl character in this, urgh I feel like I've seen it a zillion times before. However that aside, the movie was enjoyable enough and I said, I thought the 3D was great
3D ALL THE WAY!!!

Wreck It Ralph has amazing 3D. I consider it to be a top tier 3D release.
