You put similar in quotes. You weren't implying they're not similar?

Theatrical cut analysis: The U.S color timing and framing is a little different from the U.K version. It's missing the green tint that was present in previous versions. Wwatching back and forth between both versions, i felt the U.K version also looks better in motion.

I just think it would be fun if we could get five members here that are pro-Hunger Games to fight five members here that are pro-Battle Royale. We meet somewhere in the middle of the country and brawl. The last team standing is correct and the losing team must concede that the other was right

You know what would be great; If Anchor Bay could release the DC of Battle Royale II: Requiem to tie in with the Hunger Games sequel.. Maybe they can release 3-Discs Ultimate Editions of the 2 film while they at it (each with Both Cuts on separate discs and bonus DVD disc loaded with extras).

Hunger Games is the twilight US version of battle royal ;D

i owned both UK and US release. and i like the stronger colors more on the US release. the UK release looks like it has a wrong gamma level , and colors look kinda "weak"

usually i dont like how us releases are "color boostet" but it does look better on battle royal for my taste.

Never seen Hunger Games, but Battle Royale kind of reminds me of BTOOOM! in some ways. As for Hunger Games, well all I know is that it's newer than Battle Royale.

What exactly is the story on the version of Battle Royale that came in that special packaging? Is that pretty much impossible to find now? I see some on eBay that look like it but at pretty low prices, so I assume all of those are the rereleases. How many of those were produced?

It looks like those are still readily available for ~24.99, not sure if there's something different about it from earlier presses though

They're in an Amaray case now, not the book packaging. The book packaging didn't last for long. What you're seeing are probably the Amaray versions.

Somehow I never got around to seeing this movie until recently. I remember hearing a lot of hype both for its gruesome premise and how it's among Tarantino's favorite films of all time. I guess I just saw this a little too late as I've gotten kind of burnt out and desensitized to the whole "turn on a group of people in a deadly game for survival" genre. While it's likely a better story than similar movies I've seen over the years, I just wasn't really feeling this. Perhaps if I'd seen it ten years ago I'd hold it in higher regard.
Detective Cameron: I got good news and bad news, girls. The good news is your dates are here.
Sorority Sister: What's the bad news?
Detective Cameron: They're dead.

It's understandable, the movie is 15 years old and we've had sooo many movies that have run the same type of story line. I still like it but it doesn't have the punch as it once did.

I agree, 15 years ago this film was unimaginable, the world we live in now is completely desensitized to films like this with all that's happened in those 15 years following this films release.

Kind of sad when you think about it, what could possibly shock us next? Serbian film and possibly grotesque were some of the more shocking films of the past 10 years.

Great points. This reminds me how important timing can be in context. I can see why this movie would have never had a chance for release around the time of the Columbine massacre. If I had watched this movie during that era I'm sure it would have left a deep impression as I was a student myself at the time. But as other filmmakers have tried to push the envelope further, I'll agree that the shock factor is wearing thin as tends to happen with overexposure. It kind of makes me appreciate those moments when I got to "live the moment" of a new trend in movie, music, etc. before it became more of a calculated formula.
