There were a lot of production sketches from the making of the film that were extremely interesting (including a production picture of Beast man attacking someone in a library). It's too bad that most of these ideas didn't make it into the final film...
Most of the pre-production art featured in the book were done over a brief period by concept designers Ralph McQuarrie (STAR WARS) and Claudio Mazzoli around 1984, when the movie was still in early development (and before being financed and greenlit), much before William Stout stepped up (with some help of the late renown French artist Moebius on the He-Man & Skeletor costumes) to replace the initially hired production designer (Geoffrey Kirkland from THE RIGHT STUFF, CAPTAIN EO and BIRDY).

The library scene was based on an earlier script draft where Julie was being chased inside the school campus.

I picked this up today at a second hand store - man, screw the haters, this thing is great. Frank Langella is awesome, the effects look pretty good for a low budget flick, the sets are brilliant and there's plenty of action. It's fun and entertaining, as a He-Man movie should be.

I remember being really disappointed with the film as a child because of how far it strayed from the Cartoon series (No Battle Cat?! Seriously?) But as an adult I appreciate it as a Fantasy Sword and Sorcerery type of film in the same vein as Beastmaster or Conan. I still need to pick this up... I assumed I'd eventually be able to find it for $10 or less but that has never happened.

How much lower do you want it to go?
I've seen it between $5 and $10 at Best Buy

That would be my price range. Just haven't seen it at the price though. I guess I should be more vigilant lol

Looks like I paid $13.49 for this back in July of 2014.
This is one of those titles that's a two-for, for me.
1. It satisfies my nostalgia needs
2. I can introduce it to my boys, 7&10. If they like great, if not I tried.
These types of movies I don't mind spending a little more for just because if it works out I end up getting a lot more value wise out of it. It's still less than a 1st day release title. At least that's how I justify it.
My Personal Top 10: The Exorcist 9. Bram Stoker's Dracula 8. Goodfellas 7. The Godfather 6. The Godfather Part II 5. The Departed 4. There Will Be Blood 3. Zodiac 2. No Country For Old Men 1. Braveheart
Honorable Mentions: Pulp Fiction, American History X, The Exorcist III, LOTR: The Two Towers, Unforgiven
My 80's BD wish list: The Beastmaster, Can't Buy Me Love, Just One of the Guys, Midnight Madness, Rad, Real Genius, The Wraith, The Hitcher

I just bit the bullet a couple years ago and paid $12 or so for it. It's probably going to go OOP in the next couple years.

What most don't realise is that the movie was intended as an adaptation of the toy line and not of the cartoon. Producer Ed Pressman (who is the actual producer and initiator of the project, not Golan & Globus) started to develop the film before the cartoon came to be...

I saw this in late 87 (age 6) in the Gants Hill Odeon and its been with me ever since. Langella's performance is masterful, the delivery of that awesome dialogue is just so superb, more than this cost-cutting Cannon production deserves.

Plus there has always been a disconnect between the cartoon (owned by Filmation) and the toy line (owned by Mattel). The rights for one might not necessarily extend to the others, and I expect that the Go-Go boys would be too cheap to buy all the rights.

Also, a US friendly version:

That makes sense, I watched it recently on cable, and I enjoyed it a bit more than I remembered but I couldn't figure out why it seemed to be more "Jack Kirby doing Star Wars" than anything to do with He-Man.
