I have a Vizio 42" edgelit LED and i love it but one thing really bothers me. In certain movies (super 8 and jurassic park so far) when theres alot of grain in a nighttime scene, it looks like the picture is flickering. No problems in bright scenes or most of movies. Is this normal for LED's?
I hope I didn't sound dumb there but i have no other way to describe it.

Check your settings. You might need to turn your Sharpness setting down. Also, you can always turn on or up your Noise Reduction
But, other than that, those are filmed movies and its a given that they will have grain. Especially on scenes at night.

it sounds like it might be too bright. check your brightness and backlight. i had an led and the damn thing was just too bright. traded it in for a straight vizio lcd. anyway i dont watch tv with the backlight set above 30, usually its set at 15. my brightness is usually around 55.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried that. Nothing seems too work. Super 8 is the biggest offender. I've went through 2 copies. Other dark movies like Underworld seem fine. I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Grain is definitely more noticable on dark scenes in general. I don't have a lot of issues with it, as I also have an edge-lit LED (LG 42LE5300), but I have my backlight down to about 20, and my brightness set around 50-55. I don't mind grain, and some films are "extra-grainy" on purpose as well.

Super 8 looks really grainy on both of my tv's as well..42" Vizio LCD and a 55" LG LED..The film is supposed to have some grain it,to make it more "movie like"
Just about all movies look better in well lit scenes, but the lighting techs have done great things nowadays, especially with the latest installment of Underworld and The Lady in Black, they both look fantastic!! |
