Sorry for your loss. A couple of years ago I lost a pet that I was really close with so I definitely understand how you feel right now.

i am crying while reading your post because i am going through a very similar situation right now (but i need a totally different outcome). i am very depressed and my dog is the only thing that's really keeping me alive and inspiring me to still look at the bright side of life. 2 years ago, he had cancer and the vet had to remove his spleen. i was told he wasn't going to survive and the vet didn't even want to do the surgery because he kept on telling me i was going to only waste my money. i know my dog more than any doctor would so i decided to pay for the surgery anyway and refused to put my dog down which was suggested by 3 vets. i was unemployed back then but i didn't care about the money and spent close to $10,000 which i have no regrets whatsoever even though i'm still paying for it until now. he survived the surgery and two years after, he's still with me. unfortunately, i am once again unemployed and he has been sneezing and suffering from a cold that won't go away. i've spent $800+ just a few months ago, and now he still has a cold and blood were coming out of his nose the other day. it hit me when you mentioned the drug "clavamox" because i was being given the option to give him that (after trying another medication that didn't work) or for him to be sedated and have his nose flushed and do x rays and stuff. i just don't want to be in a situation right now where my dog is going to get seriously sick again. he is the one thing that's keeping me from staying positive with all my trials in life and i just can't lose him like this.

i'm sorry for posting about my situation. i just needed to share that, i guess. i actually can't sleep thinking about what decisions to make. i just hope that if it's my dog's time to leave me, it'll be as peaceful as your dog leaving you. it hurts me knowing that my dog has been through a lot already and i don't want to see him go through the same things he experienced when he had cancer.

Truly sorry to hear about your loss. Apart from being your best friend pets become actual family members. I've been there myself. Its hard to loose a loved one during the holidays. I like others who have posted emphasize with you.

I'm really sorry about your lost. I can't imagine the huge void that you and your family are suffering now without her, but keep remembering all the good times that you all shared with Jasper and I'm really glad that at least she was able to say goodbye to you.

Sorry to hear about that. We had to put our Golden Retriever down three and a half years ago and I still can't think about it too much or I get pretty upset. I got her when I was fifteen, picked her out of the litter, and was there with her when she left. She went downhill fast and luckily didn't suffer, but as morbid as it may sound, I hoped I'd go to wake her up and she would've gone in her sleep.

This thread is hard for me to even read, let alone reply. We put our 15 yr old cat down June 1st. "Slap shot" suffered from seizures his entire life, then was diagnosed with congestive heart failure last Oct. With his lungs constantly filling with fluid, and giving him two types of medication, it simply boiled down to quality of life. As soon as we knew he was no longer enjoying his days, we knew it was time.

It was the hardest decision I've ever made. I cried from 9am when I made the appointment on that Friday, until I went to sleep that night, cried almost as much on Saturday, and then even more on Sunday. Went back to work Monday, which barely kept my mind off things, broke down at work a few times and so on. For the first few days, as much as I knew better, I really felt like I was never going to stop crying. It's been almost 6 months and there isn't a day that goes by where I don't miss him. He was an amazing companion who was loved just like Jasper so I truly know how you feel and I am sorry.

I am however, happy to add that after much thought, me, my wife and 2 daughters went to our local humane society and saved the life of another cat. Slapshot set the bar quite high, but I'm sure Jet will be able to at least jump up and snag it.

Take care, and as much as it's too early now, don't at all be ashamed at getting another dog. We need the companionship just like they do, and I'm sure Jasper liked it when you were happy.

I love our dog VERY much and I couldn't imagine the pain some of you have dealt with. You all have my condolences.

@memovieaddict
Life can and will turn around for you. You're on the right track by loving your dog as much as you do. It shows what a great heart you have and also how much character you possess.
Hang in there Man!
