Default Which movies have villains with unique ultimate plans?

What movies have villains with a unique ultimate plans? Are there any?

I'm getting a bit sick of villains wanting ultimate power, ruling the world, destroying the world, keeping some conspiracy secret, killing for the pleasure of killing, etc.

I'm also not talking about those evil plans to reboot society for the better either (where the plan is destructive but benefits the world in the long run, like in Moonraker or Watchmen).

If many movie villains have tons of power and money already, why do screenwriters always want them having more? There must be movie villains that want something else than what they already have.

I suppose that sci-fi villains sometimes have unique plans (Matrix, Dark City, Hitchhiker's Guide) but sci-fi allows writing to be more creative.

No mention of Hans Gruber or Darth Vader from the guys above is an ultimate fail.

Hans Gruber is such a good villain because his motives aren't so clear cut. At first everyone thinks he's a terrorist and then later it comes out that he's simply a bank robber, but he has a sense of pride of what he's done. It's not a case he wanted money, it was a case that he did it because he could. Break into one of the biggest banks in the world and have everyone unbeknown as to what has happened as he gets away only because simply it's a perfect plan and he views himself as the perfect villain.

And I always find the interesting thing around Darth Vader being that he's already taken over the universe, he simply is trying to keep in power and the rebel forces are just a thorn in his side. You tend not to see villains after taking over.

There's also been a TV show in the UK that's worth watching called Utopia, where the villains motives are actually morally questionable if it's in the best interest of the people. I won't spoil it as the show is worth a watch and the motive is the whole thing revolving around the mystery, but check it out.
Films of the Summer I'll check out: Lucy, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
Best Films of the Year so far: Boyhood, Calvary, Frank, The Rover, Godzilla, The Raid 2, The LEGO Movie, Under the Skin
Most Recent Blu-Ray Purchases: Calvary, The Raid 2

'Go for it' ('Nati con la camicia), a film with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, mocks spy movies with all these evil plans that Toddly mentioned.

I have to disagree with Darth Vader - he had a clear aned concise set of desires. Save Padme, rule the galaxy under a Galactic Empire. Anakin also made many references to dictatorship principles. I see what you are saying but unlike Joker or Chigurh, who just got a woody from screwing things up he did have some objectives.

Gruber is another one I have trouble agreeing on. Good point about the film revealing that hes just a thief as Holly points out. But, a thief has an objective and so did Gruber. Dont get me wrong - Gruiber makes the Die Hard film one of the best ever but he does exhibit many traditional villian motives, albeit in a quirky way that we all loved

Ash (Alien 1979)

His motives seem to be revealed when Ripley gains access to MUTHUR, but later on we see that not only does Ash want to bring the alien back for the bio-weapons division for the company, he also admires it. His relationship with the alien is almost like that of a boy and a pet snake. He puts it in a cage, feeds it mice, and watches the snake slowly devour the mice. He is fascinated by the creatures ability to survive and the methods it uses to do so. He will also go through great lengths to protect it. His plan is unique in the sense that he doesn't necessarily want to kill the others, but if it happens as a result, it's no big deal.

The villain from Oldboy had a pretty intense ultimate plan, and you have to give him points for going out of his way to implement it.
You will not be saved by the Holy Ghost. You will not be saved by the God Plutonium. In fact, YOU WILL NOT BE SAVED!
