I think the bias of the site is apparent by their reporting of the NPD data - ie they quote the only numbers that favour HD DVD and not the revenue or last six weeks numbers that favour Bluray. |

I find it difficult to believe they can get a four plus hour movie onto a 30 GB drive without sacrificing something (PQ, sound, etc.) even using VC-1.
But we'll see soon enough.

that is based on the assumption that it is truly an HD-DVD version of LOTR. i did pop my LOTR into the sammy and did some playing and it had what might be considered a similar picture.
to me, from the look of it, that isn't even in original aspect ratio. so, are they using a fullscreen version of LOTR? if so, they are idiots. no one in their right mind should have a full screen video out of a HD device onto a WS t.v. i don't want to jump to be too critical, but we (at least me) also haven't heard of any development of the trilogy onto a high def format. so if nothing else, we're just dealing with lots of speculation vs. actual proof. |

yeah. joystiq is def biased. they seem to hate the ps3, or just post negative messages about it. Even if they post something positive, its tainted with some sort of negative BS to get the fanboys in an uproar. the HDDVD/blu ray debate is the same in that respect.

warner supports both correct?
If you follow that link there is no mention of it in the future hd dvd. it prob was just a dvd. it is kind of funny that they have sin city 2 listed as coming soon the hd dvd, but no sin city. Maybe its just a mistake. |

Yah, it's a picture of some kiwish looking hills on a TV screen, proves nothing.
Yup, joystiq are one of the sites that thrive on Sony bashing. Anything with a Sony sticker on it is evil. Microsoft have a warrior attitude inside Redmond, which the fans reflect. Anyone making a profit in the electronics sphere is seen as a threat, someone to not only beat but run out of business, by any means fair or foul. Whether it's Sony with Playstation, Apple with iPod, or google with portals. The fans reflect and expect this, so there's a ready audience for anything negative about Sony, especially PS3. Print a story trashing Sony you get hits, banner clicks, and money. It's all such nonsense really, but it's what games forums thrive on, talking about something important like the actual games is too scary!

New Line Cinema is under Warner Bros. and thus you can look for LOTR on Blu-ray as well. New Line Cinema studio support is right on Blu-ray's official website...
http://www.blu-raydisc.com/Section-1...s/4/Index.html It's under studio support. |

Weinstein split from Miramax and are the ones doing SC2. They also did Scary Movie 4 under the Miramax/Dimension banner, but released the DVD under Genius. I believe the rights to the first SC may still be owned by Miramax though. If so, it'll come out on BD instead of HD.

As for LOTRs, New Line has already stated that it will not be coming out in high definition this year. They want to wait it out a little longer and see what happens. They're not a very big studio and from the sound of the press statement, they don't want to invest in equipment for both formats.
Warner is their distributor, just like they distribute for HBO. But, it shouldn't be assumed that NL will support both like Warner is because of that affiliation. NL has yet to announce anything definite.

Jurrassic park will never see BD. maybe its a good thing as the first one is rather old, in need of probably a re-master and definately needs an advanced codec.
