If you can move a PB13-Ultra then the XPA-3 should be relatively light in comparison.

LOL yes I did the Ultra once by myself and that was enough well until I bought the plus and got tired of waiting for my friend to come over and help me as my plus was sitting at my front door so I carried it up a flight of stairs and it almost killed me never again ! So yes the xpa-3 should be light in comparison . Its amazing how much strength you get when the pay off is getting to hook up your new HT toys lol

I've gotten multiple opinions from some people and some at MartinLogan, Definitive Technology, and Emotiva, but I would like to hear what you guys have to say about it.

I'm getting the Emotiva 7.1 Processor and Emotiva XPA-5 for my system. It will sound outstanding with my MartinLogans, but I'm worried about my Def Techs. They're the ProMonitor 800's. Definitive Technology told me that this amp will blow the speakers easily with being 50 watts over the recommended power on the website. However, Emotiva and MartinLogan both said about how it won't do a thing, unless I crank the volume nearly full blast.
Do you guys think that it'd be safe to attach my Def Techs to the XPA-5 without worrying about them blowing? Also, is it true you can adjust each channel on the UMC-1 Processor by Emotiva? If so, then I'd just make it so that the Def Techs aren't as loud as the MartinLogans, that would work right?

50w's is nothing! You're good to go 28BlusLater! Not sure why Deftech told you that.

Yeah, that's what I thought was pretty weird. The guy said even 10 watts more would blow it. I've never heard of such a thing...I would understand if it was like 100 watts, but 10-50 isn't that much more...

I love how my phone calls today varied so much...

Martin Logan - Really nice guy and tells me the MartinLogans will love and thank me for giving me 300 watts and I would of even been able to give them more if I wanted to.

Emotiva - Really cool guy and tells me that all of my speakers will sound much better than with my 90 watt receiver and that the Def Techs will be fine, because it's not that much more and just as long as I don't crank the volume, I'm fine.

Definitive Technology - The guy had a bit of an attitude and just didn't seem to care. Tells me my Def Techs will definitely be blown with the amp and that they won't cover me if they do blow from this amp and won't replace the woofer or tweeter.

Great day for phone calls, no?

You would probably hurt your ears before you did the speakers !!

And that is why they told you that you'd blow the speakers. To get out of any warranty work, should the unfortunate happen. I've run speakers at twice the recommended wattage before. As long as you're not asking too much from the speaker (ie. running it full range and asking it to produce sub bass) then you'll be fine. Most AVR's cross over the rears at 100Hz, and the demands of the surrounds are less than the fronts, so you should be fine. They're just weaseling out of any warranty work, should the need arise.
