What this means is that GT5 (or any other racers for that matter) might get most F1 cars and teams, and maybe the new championship, without having to pay FIA's licensing fees, if that makes any sense.

Kinda sad to see F1 die like that though.
I'm guessing teams will probably invest less this season then. Which means Jenson should have an easier ride to the championship

PS3Hype writes: 'Yesterday we saw that Play.com was adding a release date for Gran Turismo 5 on their website. But nothing was confirmed by Sony. But today we've received an email from Play.com where they say that they've got the release date from the publisher/manufacturer of the game. So we finally can get our hands on one of the best driving games in November 2009! (If they don't delay it again).'

Shameless Link Baiting Drives GT5 Release Date Rumors
June 19th, 2009 by Jordan

shame-on-you

If there’s one thing the “general” gaming press knows about Gran Turismo, it’s that big news about the series can drive lots of traffic. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what is happening right now in the Internet rumor mill, and it’s getting fans everywhere stirred up for no good reason. It all started when Play.com - an online games retailer with of no particular authority - listed Gran Turismo 5 as “due for release on 27/11/2009″. This isn’t anything new or exciting, as pretty much everyone who has waited on a game to be released is well aware how retailers wrecklessly throw release dates around. Until an official date comes along, it’s little more than someone’s best guess.

That didn’t stop TheSixthAxis from picking up the random date (via a NeoGAF forum post) and running with it, further sensationalizing the story with the matter-of-fact title, “Gran Turismo 5 Gets UK Release Date”. Of course, the link was promptly posted to gaming news aggregation site N4G, and has since spread to VG247 and PSXExtreme. It’s almost funny to see the authors slipping down the slippery slope of quoting retailer release dates, as they are suddenly forced to acknowledge (and link to) a seemingly endless sea of nonsense.

Indeed, it would be funny, if it wasn’t taken seriously by so many people. Casual fans won’t read this article, nor will they pay much attention to the source of TheSixthAxis’ date. When the official date is then released by Sony (say, March of 2010), people will become very upset, claiming the game has been further “delayed”. In reality, though, no date was ever moved, nor was the game ever “pushed back” from anything other than their own personal expectations. Be wary of the internet rumor mill surrounding GT5 - I hope you’ll continue to rely on GTPlanet for accurate, cited news about your favorite series.
fake date indeed.

I hope not. I hope prologue was like a tiny tiny little taste. Like one non-buttered kernel on a cob of buttery corn.

Default Gran Turismo 5 publicity begins with Citroën

Gran Turismo 5 publicity begins with Citroën
Tuesday, 23 Jun 2009 12:05

Gran Turismo 5 publicity starts with Citroën and Polyphony Digital's supercar.

Racing London in Gran Turismo 5 was a fantasy we thought we'd never be able to enjoy in real-life. That's somewhat true, but today Citroën offered their stunning concept supercar, the GTbyCITROËN, to the city and recreated the circuit featured in Gran Turismo 5.

Yes, it looks like Polyphony Digital is starting to advertise Gran Turismo 5 already, adding evidence to a late-2009 release.

The GTbyCITROEN is the result of a partnership between Citroën and Polyphony, measuring 4.96 meters and just over a metre high, sporting wide air intakes, rear air-diffuser, horizontal LED headlamps, gull wing doors, diamond-effect 21-inch aluminium wheels, black leather finishes and hi-tech racing controls.

You can find a selection of photographs of the car's tour of London below, but be warned, some of the photos are not as they seem.

The GTbyCITROËN will make its UK show début at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, 3rd to 5th July.

It's easy to tell which are the real photos of London. They're the ones with overcast, cloudy skies with minimal sunshine

Paint that car black and add the big bumpy tires and you have the bat mobile from Batman Begins.

Play.com have had a release date for GT5 for a while, I think it allows their system to take pre-orders perhaps? If they had no date they can't accept an order?

Anyway, if the game has changes as much as it looks then I'll pick it up, but if it is more of the same then maybe not...

Does anyone know, has it been mentioned at all whether GT5 will support custom soundtracks?

I sure hope so. Most of the time I don't like the song that's being played in Prologue.

I don't consider those shots "the game." Those are replay bull shots. The actual in game graphics are not that polished. Don't get me wrong, the game still looks good but it's not going make anyone mistake it for real life.

all the backrounds, gravel, signs, etc will all look the same as the replay shots

Well for one those shots are completely smooth and free of all jaggies. There are jaggies and shimmer everywhere with the actual in-game engine. Of course I'm basing all this on Prologue. I suppose Polyphony could shock us all and deliver GT5 with a much improved engine but I don't see it happening.
