Does anyone have an opinion on the Hong Kong edition of Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below? Since its only $26 dollars instead of the $70 of the Japanese edition, it seems tantalizing. But I want to be sure the picture quality is the same as the Japanese edition. Also, if the English Subtitles are, you know, well translated.

No, but here's its thread in the International section; that also has a link to the Fandom Post's thread for it and you might also want to keep track of this thread over at ANN. Hopefully, someone will tell us about it, but since it just came out, people importing won't have their hands on it yet.

I'm glad that I have the original release back from 2010. The digipak packaging is nice.

I prefer that packaging, too, but it's so expensive! $175 is cheapest currently on Amazon. Ugh. Good thing for you, though. I prefer the originals over Anime Classics or S.A.V.E. editions, but the price differences make me fine with settling.

I've had plenty of opportunities to get this BD at semi-decent prices but I passed in the quest for the best price. Most of the time it works, occasionally I miss out. This is one of those times. Oh well, at least Im getting a second chance to get the discs, if not the original packaging.

I got the DVD version of the orginal release (after it was OOP and I couldn't find a Blu-ray version). I LOVE the packaging and the cover.. it's really shiny and nice.

But I need a Blu-ray version.
I'd buy ANYTHING before I would buy a S.A.V.E. release... :cringes:

Best Buy had this set on sale a long while back during some anime sale back in July 2010. I managed to buy it for $29.22. I figured that was the cheapest the set will ever drop to...and I was right.

Trust me, there is no way anyone ever "paid" that much for it. I sold mine a few months back for $80 used and I think that's about as high on average anyone would have gone "before" the reprint.

But at least the Anime Classics look a lot better than a S.A.V.E. release. Personally, I would have imagined Funimation giving Ouran a S.A.V.E. release, but glad they're not.

I liked it better when the S.A.V.E. releases used that green sticker on the shrinkwrap back when it 1st started.

I normally prefer the original packaging, but this one was too pink for my tastes :P

I always missed it when it was on sale, so now it's my chance to get it.

Also, I we should give Funimation feedback about their S.A.V.E. editions on their survyes or something, I can't imagine there being someone who actually likes them

It's just a cosmetic difference though isn't it? The discs are identical, right?

Most wraps in the cases are also reversible. So after you reverse the wrap, it looks just like a normal release.
I like them if I already don't have the series.

With some of the SAVE editions, they are reversible, but the back cover would be an episode breakdown rather than a normal back cover. I buy either, whichever has a good price, but the looks is less than appealing. Whatever.

I find it annoying that Funimation sells Blu-Ray/DVD Combo's where the case is DVD sized! For someone with OCD like me, it would look way out of place in my Blu Ray collection!

I would have no problem with it if they just also released Blu Ray-Only releases, which they do, but sometimes they dont like with the Eden of The East movies.

Any reason why they do that?

They did this to *try* and get better placement in stores with dedicated anime sections.
Going forward, the current plan is to have Blu-ray sized cases.

Thanks for the info! There is no really good reason for a big company like Funimation to do this.
I would go on Funimation.com and complain, but apparently I'm not allowed to since i'm not American.

Is there a list somewhere that says which Funimation Blu-Rays are DVD-sized?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm sure you can ask and we can tell you. I think starting from Sengoku Basara Season 2 it went with blu ray size case and slip box. So far everything after that release is blu ray size. Though there are some animes that have blu ray size case in a dvd size slipcover so if you're looking at stores, you may see this. There's a stopper in the slipcover to hold up the smaller case but it is a blu ray case.
