I agree I would rather have all blu-ray sized cases for my disks but I don't think I could ever turn down a release I want just because of a case. To me it just feels like a slight to the hard work all those of us went through to get anime here in the US to begin with. I Still have some shoddy missmatched Fansubs some streamline dubs, some VHS recorded no label tapes and some with nice dust jackest laying around the house. Did they look good sitting on a shelf, nope but the fact that they played they were sure better then not having them at all.

Still its cool to want all nice and tidy cases and all but I question when does it stop. Do they all need a common spine color and common font. just weird.

Oh well to each their own. I am just happy to be getting a decent selection of anime stateside as it is.

Thanks,
T

It's all about appeasing Best Buy with the DVD-sized cases, I'm sure. Best Buy is Funimation's largest retail account and distributors will go against the wishes of the individual fans if the retailers wants something a certain way.

Best Buy doesn't get all of those releases though. And when they do, it's not available in all locations.

Sometimes i've even seen Best Buy put the DVD-sized Blu-ray/DVD combo packs with all of the other Blu-ray movies because the price sticker says that's the category that it belongs in.

I don't like either option since they're pretty much the same thing for me since they would both be DVD-sized in my collection. But i'm guessing the reason is because like Fairy Tail, it started back when they were doing the DVD sized cases, and so going stick to it at least for now or maybe even for the whole series. Newer series get the Blu-ray disc case with DVD-sized slipcover.

At least they did that for fairy tail. They could have switched them up between releases and then they wouldn't even be cohesive on the shelf next to each other at all. Still glad to have them at all.

I've never ordered from Amazon Japan, do they refund VAT like Amazon UK? Also what is their turnaround time? Would they be the cheapest to order, or is a site like Rightstuff cheaper/faster?

Just got done watching Murdock Scramble. A few things.

A) Sweet Sweet grain. Not something you see very often on modern anime films. Very stylistic. Really sets the mood of the whole piece.

B) B-R.com Review wasn't kidding on the amount of exposition in the first and second acts. It probably took me 2/3s of the movie to really suss out all the character motivations. Still not 100% sure on what exactly Oeufcocque's role was meant to be. Though I do love stories about conflicted AIs. Of course I wasn't entirely sure if Oeufcocque was an AI, an uplifted mouse, or a ball of morphic nano material. Or all three.

C) God damn that cliffhanger ending made me want to put my fist through a wall.

The really short run time, and that totally blue-ball ending made me really glad I picked this up for the lowest price I could find. $40 MSRP is serious highway robbery for the amount of content on the disc.

The preview for Broken Blade on the disc tipped me over the edge in wanting to pick it up ASAP though. Possibly Xam'd too.

More like all the time! At least for me. I've never seen those combo packs in the dvd anime section so their purpose seems pointless.

My Best Buy has got some of the combo packs like Sekirei 2, Darker Than Black 2, Dance in the Vampire Bund, and the Eden of the East movies, but that's about it.

But like I mentioned, try looking in both the Anime DVD section as well as the section for all of the Blu-ray movies.

Well you're basically paying for 2 full-length movies even if one is the regular version and the other is a Director's Cut. Plus Sentai's series have always costed a little higher than the norm, so that's nothing new. Though, as long as we don't get to the point of paying Japanese prices, i'm happy since I already pay enough Japanese prices as is with my imports.

But do believe there will be sequels.

Damn. I wonder if I like Ninja Scroll enough to get it instead of like five or six domestic Blu-Rays. Will probably wait and hope for a US release down the line.

An interesting update on Ninja Scroll:

They have a vested interest in people from the UK and US not importing it because they hold the rights to it in both countries.

Same here. They have those combo packs in the DVD section, but "Summer Wars" on Blu-ray is in the Blu-ray, along with the live action BD/DVD combos. Makes sense that way to me, so any Best Buy just shoving them in the Blu-ray deems Funimation's initial strategy worthless... but if it gives me my BD sized cases, I'm all for it, then.

Interesting. I'm kind of surprised about the 4:3 AR, I thought the dvd was 1.85:1?
