Godzilla (1954), Radon (Rodan), Mothra, Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla: Final Wars

Godzilla vs. Biollante was by fare my favorite Godzilla film, aside Godzilla 1985. I hope the sales are good so we can get these films here in the states.

Well, Jwblu, you'll have to wait for Disney or The Weinstein Company to lose the rights to Godzilla Vs Biollante because they really seem to have no interest in releasing it.

I'm hoping that Toho releases the Godzilla Blu-Rays about every 3-6 months or so.

Japan already is releasing all these Godzilla classics on Blu ray and here in the states, we don't even have ALL of them DVD I am still waiting for Return of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Biollante however, I am okay with the studio bypassing them on DVD and release all the Godzilla films on Blu ray.

Hate to burst bubbles, but since Return of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Biollante never got released in the US due to rights issues, I'm not hopeful for a US Blu release. The best bet is to get the Japanese Blus. Sure, there aren't subtitles, but who watch Godzilla films for the talking. Besides, what's wrong with Japan being first? Godzilla is their franchise.

The only one that has rights issues is Godzilla Vs. Megalon. Supposedly GOODTIMES might have sold the rights off. The only reason why Godzilla 1985 and Godzilla Vs Biollante never got released is because lack of interest by the studios.

That's the 1961 Mothra film. It's just cover art. In the movie, Mothra attached herself to the Tokyo Tower and went into change from her larva to moth form.

I know how you feel, I'm not a real fan of slip covers but I want my kaiju films protected. I'm considering buying all 5 but at this point, I'm only going for Godzilla Vs Biollante and Godzilla: Final Wars.

I'll probably end up getting all 5. Those covers look great. But the godzilla 54 will obviously be the american version.

No, it's the Japanese cut. Even the US Blu-Ray coming out on September 22 will not include the US Edit of the film. So no Raymond Burr.

It's 50/50 for me, because when the US Blu was announced, it didn't say if they used Toho's restored HD print that ran on television last year in Japan. Lucky for me that I am starting a side job, I'm buying both versions. The DVD release that came out back in 2006 for Gojira could have been a lot better in terms of PQ because there was still a lot of print damage that was clearly visable.

I've read over on AVS that Toho usually won't let other companies have access to their masters, meaning licensed releases outside of Japan are inferior.

Actually that was what I was merely implying anyway. I was merely saying that though I will purchase all 5 movies, the release of the 54 version, will be the us release that i'll be getting.

I don't know about that. I mean, those DVD releases by Sony of the Showa films (the 1954 - 1975 films) were pretty top notch in PQ if you ask me. But those weren't from the Japanese masters though, they were from their "International Cuts" where the credits are in English and not full on Japanese credits.

With Classic Media's releases, I could understand that, they weren't top quality and could have been better. I saw Ikiru on DVD from Criterion, that film was made in 1952 and the PQ was pretty flawless for a film that's over 57 years old. Then you see the Classic Media release for Gojira and the quality is horrid.

Why can't Toho just remaster the films with their stuff, guaranteeing the best quality, then go to Classic Media etc only for adding subtitles and distribution. You know? Use the original JPN master as the source for that version, and the cleanest version we have for the US Burr version?

Like the Star Wars special editions. Pretend the only change was a cleaner transfer. Pretend that they were released in the US theatrically while the rest of the world just got the 70s-80s originals, and couldn't use the special edition transfer for a BD release. Just seems weird to completely ignore the nicer looking source.
