the first one was dts es 6.1 and dd ex.after that the next release was dd 5.1.my guess is paramount is using the dd 5.1 and mix it dd true hd 5.1.since paramount releases are true hd except startrek season1 and top gun[dts] this doesn't surprize me.

easy answer: yes! My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. |

The Blu-ray presentation will include both the original theatrical version of the film as well as the extended version in 1080p High Definition with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital, as well as English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Korean subtitles.
Taken right from this website the specs on gladiator blu-ray 5.1 master audio is good but damn it I want some 7.1!!!! I freakin love this flick!!!

I guess they think that not everyone has a 7.1 system.

But this soundtrack begs for rear center. I remember on the 6.1 a part at the beginning scene when a hatchet came thrown right at the camera and went over head with the sound to match. It was fricken cool!!!

Personally, I'll take lossless 5.1 over lossy 6.1 any day of the week. I'd also take the original 5.1 mix over a poorly done, fakey 7.1 mix also.

5.1 means 5 surround channels (speakers) center, left, right, left rear, right rear and .1 is your bass. 6.1 adds a rear center and 7.1 adds left rear center and right rear center or something like that.

Just give me the lossless codecs in 5.1...it's all good for me! Dolby PLIIx, THX Surround EX, THX Select2 and my personal favorite THX Ultra2 all do an incredible job of matrixing 5.1 to either 6.1 or 7.1. Just activate any of them over the lossless codec and you're seriously good to go!
