Default Besides BD Live, what other uses does a flash drive have in a samsung 1600?

I've had the Samsung 1600 blu-ray player for nearly a month and it works wonderfully. I'm extremely happy with the Blu-ray format and I'm building a movie collection.

Since I have been so happy with the movies I still haven't connected the player to the net and I haven't used the BD Live feature yet, I also don't have a flash drive yet. My question is that if the flash drive will only be able to download from the blu-ray player or does the player also read what the flash drive contains? If it does, what files is this player capable of reading. I tried putting a divx disc but it said it couldn't read it. Is it possible that the player can read the avi filed from the flash drive?

I just would like to know what is the full funtion of the flash drive with the Samsung 1600 blu-ray player to determine if I just need a simple 1gb drive or should I buy a 32gb dive because I will be able to make good use of all that space?

most likely the bd-live content will be downloaded on the usb drive. some players will play files from the usb drive as well. check your manual for the file types. if you dont have it, im sure you can download it from the samsung web site

I have a 4GB USB thumb drive on the back of my Sony BDP-S350. All the recommendations I have seen state 1GB is sufficient, but with 2, 4 and 8GB USB drives being so inexpensive, it didn't make sense to just get 1GB.

As an example, I got a 4GB drive for $10.00.

Tell you the truth, I have not tried much BD-Live stuff. The initial interest in it fell off pretty quickly, but it's nice to know it's there.

The BD live just seems to DL small files to store to interact with,
I,ve noticed a lot of the Universal Studios stuff wants to DL new stuff
lately. I just have the 1gb and it seems large enough.

Some NET connected players will also download Firmware updates to the USB Drive before installing them. Greater capacity helps speed up both BD Live and Firmware updates.

More Power,.....

Thanks for the input everyone.

I read the samsung manual a while ago and it said it couldn't play USB storage devices such as divx, avi, mpg, and mov. The thing is that the manual also says that this player can't play DVD+R disc, but that's not true because those disc work perfectly so I'm a little confused as to why it says that.

To anyone that has this player, I would like to know what files can it play from the flash drive. If it usable just to for the BD Live downloads than a 4 gb drive would be just fine. If it can play divx and a lot of various files from the drive then I would go for the 32 gb drive.

I have been reading that some players can do it but not in the US. Is there anyone that unlocked this feature ?

I ended up getting a 2gb flash drive but it wouldn't play any video file. I contacted Samsung to see if any future Firmware upgrade will add divx to the player and they told me it can possibly be added in the future.
