Default Poll: Subtitle positioning in wider ratio (2.20+) movies on Sony Blu-ray Discs

How do you feel about the positioning of subtitles on wider-ratio (2.30+) movies for SPE Blu-ray Discs?

Your preference for subtitle positioning in regards to widescreen (Aspect Ratio of 2.30 or greater) pictures is:

1. Place all subtitles inside the active picture all the time.

2. As it is not possible for SPE to place both lines outside of the active picture, I prefer what SPE currently does which is, one line in the active picture and one line below.

3. It makes no difference to me, as either way is fine.

And for those that dont care. Please help out as it is a giant problem for all Cih people and zoomers\black bar haters.
Sony and warner (ofcause...) are the onlyone stil suffering from this problem.

I prefer in the black bar, easier to read, doesn't interfere with the imagery.

Of course, a "position" setting either player based or on the disc is the best solution to those with CIH setups.

Makes no difference to me, although I'd rather have no black bars at all

On the image at all times, but I like what Peter said where the user should be able to choose. But if I can't choose, I'd rather have them seem like they're part of the image.

Moving subtitles would be color as well as color options.

Would it be hard to have 2 sets, one in the picture, one in the black bar. Or three I guess if needed, where the third is half in the bar, half in the picture. (Yeah I read Penton's note)

Or better, any non-English film dubbed over by David Attenborough jk

I think that would necessitate doubling the number of streams on the disc since we would have to offer for every language and this adds significant cost.

I see, thanks for sharing that point. Scratch that then

I'm in the "It makes no difference to me" group currently but I'm going to wait for some more comments before voting.

But doesn't having to look down at the words then back up at the screen bother you?

If its in the picture your eyes are still focused on the movie.

I vote for in the picture, because even though I don't have a constant height projector now, I could one of these days down the road and I would love for my library of foreign films on BD to be watchable with it.

subtitles in picture ALWAYS. Though they could include multiple subtitle tracks or the ability to position them in screen etc. It really would not add any real cost as extra subtitle tracks are small.

Since everyone worldwide understands English if spoken loudly enough and slowly enough, couldn't you just get by with two English subtitle tracks.

Seriously, though, would it be that hard to add two English subtitle tracks to North American releases?
