Default V10 tomorrow!!! - UPDATED w/pic

Just got the phone call I've been waiting for. The V10 showed up at the repair facility today. They're delivering it first thing in the morning.

Congrats! It truely sucks when you have to send your favorite toys in for repair.

That is one nice looking set. Did it take some getting use to, the screen that is?

It sure does. In a way, though, it's been worse to have the 800u sitting in my living room, backwards, on the stand (I had it on the wall), screws missing because Dan the TV man figured he'd only put a couple back considering he'd be back to take it apart again. Over the weekend I put it all back together & repackaged it in anticipation of the V10 replacement's arrival.

I can't wait to see the difference between 46" & 50" on the wall.

That's the plan. I did it with the 800u via break-in images on the SD card - ran them 9-10 hours per night every night for a few weeks...plus normal, full-screen watching during the day. I bought the DVE calibration disc on blu-ray when I bought the 800u, so that'll come in handy again.

Yeah, I had a Rear projection DLP before that, so it took days to get used to the black levels. People say that they are not as good as the Pioneer plasma's, and it may not be, but I can not imagine needing more black level. I do not even have mine set as high as it could be. Love the set, no regrets at all.

All that matters is if you like your equipment. I have a 52" Sammy and a 106" HD projector and I know there are better out there but I do not care, I love my setups. Enjoy it.

Just curious, when you say "it took days to get used to the black levels" did you mean it took you days to get used to the sheer awesomeness of the picture or did you mean the black levels were so much better than your rptv that it almost didn't look right or natural?
Blonde reads newspaper headline "3 Brazilian men killed in tragic sky diving accident."

Blonde frantically shouts "oh my god, just how many ARE 3 brazillion??"

A little bit of both I guess. The picture is the best I have seen on any TV, keeping in mind that most of the good sets I have seen were on a sales floor, not calibrated for a specific room. hands down better over LCD and rear projection and better to my eye than the other plasma's I checked out. I would put it beside a Kuro any day, but everyone has their own idea of perfect picture.

I have been watching rear projection for a decade now, from a Toshiba to a Hitachi to my last TV, the Samsung. Every set was an upgrade in some way or another, but I am so used to that projection kind of picture that the blacks did seem too dark and unnatural at first. Now I soak them in and enjoy ever aspect of the display. I found calibration settings for the 50" V10 online, so I used those after I broke the display in a bit. I made a few modifications for my watching environment, and could not be happier now. I look forward to watching a number of my Blu-ray's over again on the new display.

I just picked up my TC-P50V10 earlier today and at first glance, it is unreal.

I haven't really had a chance to really play with it since I picked it up before work so I could play with it after work!

I hooked up the BD80 and played a little bit of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and it looked awesome!
TV: Panasonic TC-P50V10
Receiver: Pioneer VSX-920-K
BD Player: Panasonic DMP-BD80
Speakers: Omage X100 (x2), Omage TC5, JBL SP-150 subwoofer

Same here...Dan the TV Man helped me hang it when he dropped it off & picked up the 800u this morning...but that was it...I had to go to work & wait til now to plug it in & check it out. I'm very happy with it. I'm used to the quality of the 800u, so for HD TV watching, it's just as good, only bigger. I'll be glad when break-in is done so I can calibrate. Also, can't wait to check out a Blu.

Here's a before/after shot - I'm still tossing around the idea of lowering it, but that would require lowering the wall-mount part of the wall mount. The brackets on the back of the tv are maxed out already - tv can't go any lower as-is. The mounting holes are significantly lower on this tv than the 800u. Relative to my setup, the frame starts a little higher than the 800U, but the screen itself is at just about exactly the same spot on the bottom. The wife wants me to leave it alone. Let's be honest...I'll probably leave it alone.

Before (TH-46PZ800U):

After (TC-P50V10):

I'm on hour #30 of the break-in images as I write this post. I'm taking a break tonight to watch my first Blu on it. It's going to be either Transformers (seen it) or Lord of War (haven't seen it).

sorry, but i have this questions...
how many hours do you need to break-in the TV?
you people let the TV on all night long?
is there big difference between doing the calibration before or after break in? why?
is this only for plasmas or also for LCD?

I am...and all day too.

I use the DVE disc. I did it pre-break-in on the 800u, and found that the image changed enough to have to do it again after break in. Brightened & sharpened. Also, you're not supposed to run high brightness/"picture" during the break-in period of a Plasma...so if calibration of your set dictates a higher setting, you're breaking that rule if you're calibrating before your break-in is up.

Plasma only...but it's worth it.
