The Matrix on BD? - Blu-ray Forum

I am sorry if this has been posted about before - I am just so sad about the release of teh Matrix on HDVD -PLEASE, enlighten me, why the HELL would a company backing both formats release matrix only for HD DVD?

I love matrix, and enough to buy them on HD DVD- however, not enough to by a HD DVD player -_-'

Matrix has IME features. Authoring tools for putting these features on Blu-Ray are not yet finalized, but will be soon. Then we'll get the Matrix trilogy.

Basically Picture in picture. Being able to watch commentaries while watching the movies. Two streams of video. One SD for the commentaires and the HD main movie.

It's a nice feature. But, not a critical one.

The reason that the Matrix isn't out yet is mostly political. Clearly incentives were offered to Warner to release it as a counterpoint to Pirates. There is a flash ad from the HD DVD Promotion Group sell it as the only way to own The Matrix in high def.

Of the now 19 missing Warner titles, how many have IME?

Exactly. IME is the excuse but Warners is clearly throwing a bone to someone.

Anyway, it's coming to Blu-Ray eventually.

Released date for the Matrix trilogy is 31 Dec 07. We are going to have to wait. Sounds like a late christmas gift for me from my wife..LOL.

I think Gary could be right. Warner could be giving the nod to HD DVD for political reasons. I've considered waiting until I buy a Blu-ray player and getting the Blu-ray version of the Ultimate Matrix.

For some reason I'm just not enthused by buying a flipper of The Matix. I know with the BD version I'll get all content and disc art and for a collectable series that's what I want. I love folding out my Alien Quadrilogy and seeing all the discs and art.

as long as the matrix trilogy will be released on BD i'm happy. it's a shame that they didn't release it along side HD-DVD

Yeah but who hasn't seen the Matrix series a bunch of times? If you have to wait a couple of months...no biggie. It's far less painful IMO than the wait for Band of Brothers. <sigh>

Of course Gary is right. I'm "blu", but I don't delude myself anymore to think that Warner is neutral.

Like I've said in another thread, they (i.e. WB) may as well be HD DVD exclusive...it will eventually be to their detriment...

The funniest thing is that WB actually sell more BD units even though they have released less films, sure that night change now that the Matrix is out, but title-for-title WB have a higher selling rate on BD.

I wonder how long Warner will be able to keep the charade up. They love to dance and cheer about how being neutral is great but they still have an imbalance.

Well, WB have great interest in HD DVD as DVD was the golden child and this is the direct offspring. Fortunately the higher-ups at TW know better than to risk a war that will impede sales of HDM so instructed them to play fair and go neutral as BD already had the bulk of the support.

Tbh I would prefer HD DVD castoffs to nothing as it still gets a boxed ticked for Blu-ray. Average consumers don't care about bitrates and all that, they just wan the movie and if BD can't offer them *most* of the WB movies with a promise that they will all be on the way soon, then it would be a big blow for Blu-ray.

true, i can wait until the end of this year to get it on BD. I don't mind... my DVD's are good enough until then

I don't mind waiting. I'd like to see how much of an HD improvement we're talking about first before shelling out $70+ for really only one movie in that set I'd ever watch again (obviously the first). There's still nothing in the HD DVD catalogue that tops Casino Royale, but I suspect V for Vendetta on HD DVD is pretty close (in my humble opinion, V for Vendetta is the preferred title from the Wachowski bros / Warner that I'd like to see on Blu-ray)...

I think it may come before then.
