How did Shaw
[Show spoiler]come to the conclusion that the canisters leaking the black fluid were weapons?
The more I think about certain scenes, the more I feel I missed.

I'm lost - Who/What is
[Show spoiler]the Sacriface Engineer?
[Show spoiler]The Sacrifice Engineer appears at the beginning of the movie. He infuses the water with the DNA from his disintigrating body thereby starting evolution on Earth. So, in essence, the Engineers create humanity. The question is, was that his intent. Or was the planned evolution incomplete or the result flawed when Prometheus seeks out mankind's creators.

Yes. But keep in mind,
[Show spoiler]there were two agendas. The Mission to find the Engineers of humanity and Weyland's hidden agenda to wrest the secret of immortality from the 'gods'. David and Vicker's to a lesser extent, were tasked with finding that secret of immortality for Weyland. In the beginning, Weyland was kept in stasis inside the luxury escape module that was also Vicker's quarters. When the 2000 year old bodies of the Engineer's were found, David thought they had all died, so in an attempt to find a solution he infected Holloway which led to the 'impregnation' of Shaw. The plan was to bring the creature back to Earth ,thinking that they might answer the immortality question by investigating the creature.

After Weyland told David to "try harder", David discovered the hidden entrance to the pilot's compartment on the juggernaut where he found the last remaining Engineer in stasis. He returned to revive Weyland to bring him to the Engineer. Shaw and the creature were no longer important to the mission of discovering immortality at that point. That's why they ignored her.

Weyland had been kept in stasis as long as possible, given that he was near death. He would have been kept in stasis if David had not found the last Engineer.

Something has been bugging me.

[Show spoiler]All the other engineers died. But the flute pilot went into stasis. Why? Why didn't he just pilot the ship to Earth? David brought up all the plans. He seemed perfectly capable after they woke him up and he started slaughtering people and launched the ship. Should we make such a stretch that they were all up and walking around, the virus broke out and he was the only one in the right spot to enact a lock down and put himself into stasis waiting out the virus, with the end agenda being what? That he'd hope the humans would show up and do exactly what they did? That's a bit of an enormous stretch. If that wasn't the plan then how did he end up in stasis?

Ridiculous nitpicking. Try to enjoy the film next time.

And I don't even know why Foggy gave this a 4. That's a pretty solid rating for a film you seem to keep criticizing. Don't let the Internet influence you in a bad way.

Good point. People just like to complain though, unfortunately.

No people like to get their moneys worth, and not feel like they have been ripped off. Everyone here has had a complaint about a movie.

I agree. In my years of watching Alien, especially with someone watching it for the first time, I always anticipate the reaction to when Kane gets attacked by the Facehugger, and it's always the same two reactions, "Don't put your head in there.....ohhh shhhhiiii....", or, "Why is he kneeling down, sheeeiiiiiiittt if that was me......". No different than

As much as I don't really like defending this film after all the plot holes and mindlessness that it contained, I can still see the engineer being in crisis making sense. They were preparing for launch. He could have got into crisis for the trip and the rest of the crew got wiped out while he was sleeping.

Thanks. I may not be able to sleep tonight.

And why would you see this again? Well depends. Not saying this is in the same league as Blade Runner, but there are even people today who don't like it much initially, until they see it once or twice more. Maybe you honestly did not like Prometheus and have valid reasons. Maybe you are an upset Alien fan that is disapointed it wasnt the film you expected. Maybe you saw it wanting to dislike it and were on the lookout for things to criticize. There are many reasons. I think after time has settled, the hype is gone, and your in a different time in your life, you may think differently about it if you watch it again. It happens all the time. For me it was The Thin Red Line.

I can see why it was rated R, but I think of it more along the lines of PG-13 (or PG-15 if they had that rating). I have to say that the last scene you mention was one of those "whoa" scenes. Overall, the movie was very intense, but not something I would have a problem with my 15 or 16 year old seeing. In fact, my son saw it last night (just walked on in with no problem) with some of his friends.

Bad writing still holds. Just like the hologram plot device, which only served the purpose of not having them take the time to figure out how things worked.

Bad writing according to whom? If you ask me, people are upset for the simple fact that Lindelof was involved with the film, and that's it.

Was it bad writing for the Queen in Aliens to all of a sudden appear in the drop ship at the end of the movie?

Was it bad writing that the Alien Hybrid in Ressurection hauled ass from the Hive to The Betty at the end of the film?

Character development - what character development? There wasn't any - instead we had a bunch of cardboard cutouts who I didn't give a damn about (except for Fassbender as David).
Pretty much.

I would be happy to explain the reasons. Which have nothing to do with Alien. I will never go to a movie to a movie wanting to dislike it, I'm would not waste my time or money. I honestly did not enjoy the film. I have issues with movies that remove me from the film. Hair blowing in helmets, ungloved hands, and flamethrowers in a co2 environment is lazy film making. These elements should have been caught in post production. Then there are the serious plot holes and bad editing. I went in wanting to see a mature sci-fi movie for adults. What I got was no different than what has been done in the past. I have grown tired of the stupid scientists in movies.
