http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=28895 Video: "The Warriors Blu-ray is encoded in High Definition 1080p format using MPEG4 AVC compression on a single-layer 25 gb disc. The movie's theatrical 1.85:1 aspect ratio has been slightly opened up to fill a 16:9 frame with negligible impact to the composition. I almost can't believe that a movie of this age and budget could possibly look so good. The High-Def transfer is simply stunning. The picture is amazingly sharp and detailed, with vivid colors, inky black levels, and plenty of depth. The source elements are spotlessly clean, and the minimal amount of grain is well rendered. The picture looks so nice you'd swear the movie was shot yesterday with a healthy budget. If I really have to nit-pick, a couple of shots during the final scene exhibit some minor edge ringing, but it's barely problematic and not worth complaining about. Otherwise, I couldn't find any flaws. The Warriors is truly a revelation in High Definition. " More reviews on the way, enjoy it. HEY Paramount what are you doing lately with BD ,i'm actually more than impressed. |

I was happy to see this get a very nice transfer. The best gang had to be the Baseball Furies. At least they had the coolest look, I thought.

I just picked it up on Tuesday and I'm not sure I'd say it was stunning. It was definitely a good transfer in most parts but there were a number of scenes that were a little soft. I don't think anyone will be disappointed but just don't expect too much.

The BD received a 640kps DD track where the HDdvd got a 1.5 mps DD+ track.
Thanks, Paramount.... But there's only so much that can be done for the track. The music was remixed into stereo and sounds decent by all accounts but the majority of the dialogue, sound FX etc. reportedly is a bit thin sounding. |

It has been almost 2 months since i purchased "The Warriors" on Blu-ray and I am still impressed. But I am, at the same time, worried. The Warriors is a 1979 movie and the Blu-ray transfer looks just as good if not better than some of the movies that are made today. I love a lot of old movies and I have purchased/plan on purchasing many of them. The problem is, I have yet to run into an old movie (whether it be from the 70s or 90s) that looks as good as The Warriors (The Untouchables comes close). The other old movies I own are Goodfellas, Superman 1 and 2, Dawn of the Dead (1978), Evil Dead 2, Memento, Reservoir Dogs, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and the Terminator (Terminator is the worst lookin Blu-ray I own).
At first I thought Warriors was just shot with better cameras or something but since I keep buying more and more old movies I have realized this was not true. I dont know what the cause is but I am beginning to worry that studios simply dont wanna spend teh time and money on old movies for really good transfers. I am the kinda guy that tends to like old movies more than new ones and I am really feeling let down by some of these transfers. Can anyone shed any light on why The Warriors looks so damn good and nothing else seems to? |

I just also responded to you in a different thread, so I'll post it here also.

I guess it will be my last Paramount BD that I buy for a long time.

Haven't gotten this one yet myself but I probably will.
However I did purchase "Road Warrior" and "First Blood" a couple of weeks ago. "Road Warrior" looked really good on my setup and I was really astounded by the PQ. First Blood was also good, but a tad softer. Still miles over the DVD in my opinion. Right now I'm most exited about the upcoming "Lawrence of Arabia" release and have high expectations for that one.
