Default Pioneer Elite receivers 1080P Up Scaling

Pioneer Elite receivers don't do 1080P Up Scaling! But their cheaper receiver does. Just confused on this. WHY?

This has been one of the biggest knocks on these receivers. Of all the reviews I have read, there was no definitive answer as to why they did not include this. But they did lose points in the reveiw for excluding it, especially since the lower ones do have it. I assume they just did not see the importance of it......

Maybe they did not put the upscale feature in because it will pass through the 1080P from where it is coming from .

I think (I could be wrong crazy....) he is referring to upscaling 480i/720p/1080i material from regular Tv viewing to 1080p......

I don't need it or use it, but it seems this option is offered on the lower models, and to leave it out of the higher end ones is strange. I am not sure what you mean by "player", because I was referring to the upscaling of regular TV viewing, which would come from the DVR box to the Elite. Some people like to upscale the 480p/720p/1080i signal you get from your cable provider.

Default Yes they do!

It has to be an analog source though.

-On an analog input go to V Parameters
-Select your resolution (including 1080p)

If you don't have that option that's because you have HDMI input selected. I upscale my DVD player (component), NES (Svideo), Camera input (composite), and SNES (composite) to 1080p.

The only issue is that on these sources it initially flashes "Not Support" on the receiver display, but then it kicks in at full res. any idea why it does that?

I have a 92TXH

I am pretty sure that the 05, 07 and 09 do not have this option (not sure about the 01/03). This is what is so perplexing, because your 92THX does, but yet the higher Elite models do not.

Maybe they brought it back due to "popular demand".

Got Rice, does it upconvert 480, 720p and 1080i by component to 1080p or just 480i/p? For some reason (and I could easily be remembering this incorrectly) I thought that it could only do 480i/p by component. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hey fors, I'm 99% sure our receivers have a faroudja DCDI upconverter. This is off memory but If you go to the "Official Elite" thead on the first page the link from Audioholics review of the SC 07 talks about this feature for component but not HDMI. This was one of the "cons" inthe review, no HDMI upconversion, only pasthrough.

Yeah, it says it was a "no" for 1080p analog video upconversion. So I assume it is across the board, whether it is 480i, 720p or 1080i, you will not be able to get any upconversion to 1080p with either HDMI or analog.

Fors you are right. I called Pioneer USA and was told the Elite 0X versions do not have any processing only pass through.

We got the shaft. Hahaha.

all the pioneer elite receivers can upscale analoge sources to 1080p, singnals sent through hdmi cannot be upscaled and will be passed through untouched.
Here s a quote from the ultimateavmag review

A Faroudja DCDi video processor provides the deinterlacing and scaling of analog inputs. Pioneer decided not to process any HDMI signals—instead, these signals are passed through the unit untouched. The composite, S-video, and component inputs can be transcoded to HDMI and output at resolutions up to 1080p/60, which means you only have to run one cable from the AVR to the display.
