Forgive me if there is already a thread for this, I hate making duplicate threads because some people get up in arms, but I could not find anything using the search bar. I was on Amazon today and found Harry Potter Years 1&2 listed as Ultimate Editions available for preorder.

Wait, I take that back...they are in boxes now instead of just single cases. But that's all I know.

May or may not be released when HBP comes out later this year. Everybody thought that these 5 BD's would be released when HBP was showing in theatre, ( I think at one point they had a July release date) which would've made sense. Your guess is as good as anybody else's at this point.

No single/stand-alone cases for Years 1 & 2. These are packaged in their own gift boxes with items of an unknown nature. I.E. There is one gift set for Year 1 and another gift set for Year 2. The remaining years have not been announced as getting the same treatment.

Perhaps these will include extended cuts? Hopefully they will also include the original theatrical cuts by seamless branching. That certainly would make them ultimate editions.

According to a German website that's exactly what they are (I'll try and find that specific link.) WB has confirmed that extended cuts are being released (once it was discovered on the MPAA website that "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Extended Edition" had been given a PG rating.) Now I see no reason for these Ultimate Editions not to be the extended editions. Why else re-release them in a large box? Rumors have been surfacing that movies 1 and 2 will be released in the UE edition on the same date as Half-Blood Prince (probably in November before Christmas). According to a recent ad (which someone posted in these forums somewhere) we won't know the full details of these editions until September.

I'm glad I've been holding out on buying HP on blu. Only problem is...I'm sure they will only be the extended editions. I'd like both but look what they're doing with LOTR.

Well if that German site is correct (and I'm hoping it is) the UE will contain BOTH theatrical and extended cuts.

Meh, I'll hold off until they release ALL eight movies as Ultimate Editions in one huge set. For now I'm happy with the DVDs, even if the first two look incredibly horrible in my Bluray player.

I only hope that when all the movies will be out in blu ray, will have a superb collector's edition with all of the ultimate edition.
I didn't bought the first two because I want the full series.
