I bought my refurb 5003 from accessories4less right before christmas. It arrived mint and have had no problems with it.

In 1995 VAC entered into an agreement with Marantz Japan to recreate the legendary Model 7 Preamplifier, Model 8B Stereo Amplifier, and Model 9 Monoblock. These models were made variously between 1958 and 1967, and have been sought after by collectors world-wide as the finest examples of the audio engineering art of their day.

Unlike the McIntosh and other modern "reissues", the Marantz Classics were exacting recreations of the original models. Labor intensive point-to-point wiring was retained - no printed circuit boards here. Extensive archeology by the VAC engineers uncovered original vendors and designs for virtually all key components. Except for a few changes mandated by international safety regulations, these models are as if straight from a 1960 showroom.

Given the nostalgic nature of these components, it was truly amazing to discover that they still can beat many modern audio products, as attested to in several reviews in the late 1990's.

VAC's Marantz Classic Model 9 was the best selling high end amplifier of any type in Japan in 1997.

All good things must come to an end, and so production of the limited edition Marantz Classics ended in 1998. They were followed by a short run of an all new VAC designed integrated amplifier called the Model 66. Also in development were the Model 77 and Model 99, thoroughly modernized versions of the Model 7 and Model 9; unfortunately, the difficulties in the Japanese economy caused a partial break up and reorganization of Marantz Japan, and these projects were lost in that confusing time.

Personally I'd go with the xx03 series, as the xx04 series seem to have some major issues (die right out!). For more on this, check the official xx04 Marantz Receivers series at AVS.

* Agreed, Accessories4Less is a great place for refurbished Marantz receivers (xx03 series and especially the older models from the xx02 and xx01 series).

I was at a local shop in Edmonton last week and the rep mentioned that he heard talks about a Marantz SR7005/8005 that might hit the stores late 2010. He said his source was pretty solid but didn't have any more info on it..?

Anyone else hear anything about it?

anyone have any experience with the SR5600? thinking about getting the refurb at A4L, im been looking at receivers in this price range for months, seems like this might be a better buy than an entry level onkyo or pioneer

Sirs need your suggestions, recently i bought a Marantz SR5003, but still undecided what speaker will i pair on this unit, currently im looking at Monitor Audio BR5 Floorstand Speaker & MA BRLCR, because it is affordable for me & i already heard this stuff running on SR5003. But im still searching what other brand & model can you recommend for this AVR, that aligned in my budget same as Monitor Audio BR5.

That seems like a good choice. You can pretty much pair up any speaker with any receiver so don't limit yourself to certain brands. I would check out whatever you can in your price range. Take a look in the Speaker section for ideas.

There are many Marantz owners on here paired up with speakers that have completely different sound characteristics from Klipsch to B&W. I use Paradigms with mine..

I've been considering an upgrade from the NR1501 to the SR5004 or 6004 - but I've been hearing/reading the POP OF DEATH and I'm alittle paranoid now. Anyone here with either of those two receivers having this problem or had it in the past?

You could get a 6003. I think the only differences are bluetooth capability and 10 extra watts.

I own a marantz SR-18EX receiver . I love the sound it has from it . I only paid 100.00 for it from ebay . It was not powering up ,I knew that when I bought it from the seller that sold it to me . So I sent it to marantz in Illinois , The cost for repair was 250.00 us dollars . It was well worth it too . The sound I'm getting from it is fantastic , I cant complain about at all . Im very happy with the way blu-ray sound from it . But I hear from some people that its better to run a analog cables for 5.1 sound out . That way I can have the full resolution sound from the blu-ray disc . But I think it better the way it is not . I have it hooked up from coaxial digital out from the blu-ray player , Its sound better than the denon dvd player I replaced it with . I use to own a pioneer elite vsx37 from them . I did not like the center channel on that receiver , it sounded really low at time no matter how I did the adjustment to the setting in the on-screen display . I sold that receiver in 2007 , and I'm very glad I did . I'm very happy with marantz and denon products . I think the world of them and like them very much . The service is very good for marantz , My receiver was 10 years old and they still had parts available . so if you have the marantz sr-18 ex or any marntz reciever from 14 18 ex please let me on what yuo like about it .
