Default American Psycho. Which Edition?

I know there are a couple of editions of this out there, for e.g the Austrailian and the German edition, but which one is the best. I can never come to any final conclusion to which one has the better PQ & better aspect ratio etc

Can anyone help.

I'm not sure the difference with the others but you can get the US version at a Wal-Mart store, or even Amazon for $10.00

Here is a comparison of all four releases:

http://www.hd-compare.com/2009/05/american-psycho.html

It seems that the Australian and Spanish releases are the best. The German release has the wrong aspect ratio and is cut. The US release has inferior PQ.

I picked up the Canadian release (which is identical to the US release except for minor packaging changes) for 12 bucks at best buy about a month ago

Copincidentally I watched it yesterday and while the opening scenes have terrible grain and the rest of the movie never reaches reference quality, I wouldn't say the PQ is terrible and from what i remember its a marked improvment over the DVD. The sound didn't blow me away either, but dialogue is always clear and the surrounds are used well for music and the low end is fairly strong (the cop car explosion at the end sounded very loud and deep). Extras are nice too, with a commentary, some deleted scenes and a short doc on the 80's (I can't remember if anything was left off from the special edition DVD)

Overall i'd say i am happy with my upgrade purchase, although i do love the film and would like to see a better edition someday but I would break down my opinion of the American Release from Lionsgate as

PQ - 7/10
AQ - 8/10
Extras - 7/10

I got the Australian about 6 months ago for around $20. A definite upgrade to the Lionsgate U.S. release.

lol ...completely missed this....i have the US version and love it...it's not perfect, but I was never a big fan of imports (not sure why ). i have the vhs, 1st release dvd, 2nd release dvd, and now the bluray, and it's definitely improved each time. i should be really picky about this movie, but i'm not. i don't feel like i'm one of those fans that has to have the very best...just being able to watch it in HD is awesome enough for me the link posted above is very informative though

I understand the Aussie version is the "One to have" I only have the U.S. version, and while it's a good upgrade to the DVD, I will double-dip because I do enjoy the film..... I just plan on waiting, as I suspect another U.S. version will come out eventually, and like Sussudio..... I don't enjoy the film enough to import it at a higher cost

Australian version is without a doubt the best release. I own both that and the US release. There is no comparison.

Thanks guys. It's the Aussie version for me. A bit more expensive, but I think it's worth it.

Does the Australian version have more or less picture with regards to aspect ratio?

Its in its correct native aspect ratio. The only thing that matters in that regard.

The comparison posted earlier said that the German version was open matted to 1.78:1. Does that mean they cropped the sides or that they left more footage on the top and bottom (hence why they say we see more)?

Thats pretty much what I wanted to know. I'm still learning about this AR thing.

I think that I would prefur more picture, even if the director didn't intend for it to be that way... it's alot better then having less picture anyway.
