Watched:

The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec. Charming Movie. Indiana Jones mixed with a bit of Hugo and Amelie.
If you like these movies give it a go. Top AQ/PQ.

Entrapment: Watched half. Needed to go to bed. Mpeg picture is not so great, however still enjoyable.

exactly, don't go the samsung. I had one but got rid of it for the Panasonic. The Samsung had burn in after about twenty seconds, you could literally see it as soon as the image changed. It was a cheap model so I suppose you get what you pay for.

Um, I think you mean image retention. Burn in is perment, and won't occur unless you are careless by leaving still or static images on the tv for very long extended periods of time. I hardly experienced any image retention issues with my Samsung d8000 plasma, and when I do it goes away really quickly. Which then makes me wonder how high you had your brightness and other settings, if it was as bad as you claim?

Ditto, my Plasma has image rention, but its really only noticable watching films in a 2.35:1 ratio, when you turn off the player and go back to regular television signal, you can see a couple of faint lines where the black bars where, but after a short time they disappear.

Pretty much the same, I used the calibration images from a Sony bluray. I had two panels, the first one was faulty, but both had the same 'image retention'. For instance, if I left the screen saver on, which is a samsung image that moves around the screen, it leaves patches all over the screen. Even subtitles left a blurry patch if they were used for the longer than a few minutes. My pansonic has nothing that I can see, apart from what Lordcrumb describes above.

What Samsung model was it? because like myself and LordCrumb mentioned, we haven't experienced what you are describing.

Can't remember now. It was the cheapest full hd plasma at jbhifi about two year ago. You've probably never run into it because you have the models higher in the series, which would have better quality panels, I suppose.

I actually have the same issue that Darry is describing, it is a Samsung PN50C550. If I am playing a game or something similar, there seems to be a fair bit of Image Retention, that comes up very quickly. It goes away quick enough, but can be extremely annoying. I'm not sure if I have my settings set to high, generally contrast ratio is between 85-90 and brightness around 40-50.

To be honest I am keen to get a new television when it is feasible, but will most certainly be sticking to Panasonic Plasma's in the future. I purchased this Sammy plasma in December 2010, so what would be the odds of me being able to get Samsung to potentially do something about it?

Those settings are fine and shouldn't cause a problem. From what I've read, there are issues with image retention and permanent burn in with some of samsung's 2010 models, though apparently Samsung would repair tv's that were affected with the fault for no charge during the warranty period. I've seen photos on this site showing permanent burn in on a couple of Samsung plasma models from 2010. Did you purchase an extended warranty with the tv? If so, I would try to use that to see what can be done about it. Permanent burn in isn't something that's cover under extended warranty agreements here in Australia, but excessive amounts of image retention might be.

Both of these arrived today My first Criterion as well.

Remember watching 12 Angry Men back in college and thoroughly enjoyed it. Stuck it in just to check the quality and ended up watching the whole movie. PQ was great and movie just as fantastic as I remember it.

Watched: Battleship. It was a free ticket so I said why not. Here's my summery. Put Top Gun and Transformers together, add in Battle LA with some fundamentals from the Simpsons Episode: Simpson Tide.
Was fun to watch and fx we're simply amazing but the acting was something that could improve quite abit.
I will probably buy it when it's like $12 unless it comes in Exclusive packaging, then of course day one for me
